Job Summary:
Raftelis is seeking an intern who is willing and able to work 20-30 hours per week this summer. We are flexible with the time/day and number of hours depending on the applicant’s schedule. This internship will conclude at the end of the summer with the possibility of continuing through the end of the year.
This position will require a high level of data organization, data analysis, persistence with obtaining reliable information, coordination with several Raftelis staff, time management, and steady progression to be completed.
Primary Responsibilities:
Market Research
- Apply AI and other tools to research business development opportunities and profile clients in the municipal electric and natural gas utility markets
- Summarize Raftelis project experience into qualifications write ups for proposal and other business development purposes
Financial Metrics Development
- Work with the development team to understand the data needs for Ellio, Raftelis’ proprietary online software platform.
- Leverage Bloomberg Terminal to export key data points and work with Ellio team to develop a process to import the data.
- Research Bloomberg functionality to understand ways to streamline the process to better leverage the tool in conjunction with Ellio Analytics.
- Research alternative approaches for extracting key data from Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (specifically, population, number of accounts, water and wastewater flows and miles of pipes in the system).
FY2027 Rate & SDC Schedule Collection
- Work with the east coast financial team to create a list of utilities and collect up to date rate schedules in July of 2026. Generally, new rates are adopted during the budget process and should be available (online or via phone call) in early July.
- Collect Similar data for System Development Charges, an additional type of charge collected by local governments when a new connection to the system is established.
- Work with Consultants to develop a data format that will allow for quick development of bill comparison charts to be used in reports and presentations.
Quals and Case-Study Updates
- Work with Finance East team to identify quals to update and develop a format for the quals in reviewing existing quals and research online.
- Complete a library of 20 quals for each region (NE, East and FL).
Other
- Maintain effective, professional attributes while dealing with clients & colleagues
Requirements:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree (mathematics, finance, economics, accounting, or other related fields)
- Basic understanding of financial statements (balance sheet, income & cash flows)
- Ability to research and organize data obtained from websites, phone calls, and web-based meetings
- Excellent written skills including reporting of technical results
- Ability to solve complex problems and think critically
- Diligent, enthusiastic, and team-player attitude
- Ability to work independently on specific assignments once direction is provided
- Experience using MS Office applications of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
