Sargent/Finance Director/Orono, Maine
Sargent Corporation is seeking a Finance Director to join our collaborative team based in Orono, Maine.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Director is a strategic financial leader responsible for advancing Sargent's growth strategy through mergers and acquisitions, financial planning and analysis, treasury management, and long-range financial planning. This highly visible leadership role serves as a trusted advisor to the Executive and Senior Management teams, providing the financial insight and analytical foundation that guides enterprise strategy, capital allocation decisions, and future growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of strategic thinking, strong financial acumen, M&A experience, and a collaborative leadership style.
Requirements of the Finance Director
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field required
MBA, CFA, or other advanced financial credentials preferred
Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 3 years in a Director-level or senior leadership role
Demonstrated mergers and acquisitions experience, including sourcing, due diligence, valuation, deal structuring, and integration
Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic planning expertise
Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial analysis
Deep understanding of capital allocation, treasury management, and risk management principles
Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership, boards, and external stakeholders
Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools preferred
Construction, infrastructure, heavy civil, or contractor industry experience preferred
Experience with employee-owned companies (ESOPs) is beneficial
Ability to translate complex financial information into meaningful business insights

Responsibilities of the Finance Director
Partner with the CFO to develop and execute financial strategies that support the Company's long-term growth objectives
Provide strategic financial analysis and recommendations to Executive and Senior Management teams
Lead the development of enterprise financial plans, budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial models
Monitor financial performance and provide actionable insights to support business decisions
Source and evaluate acquisition opportunities within current and adjacent markets
Lead financial due diligence, valuation modeling, transaction analysis, and deal structuring activities
Coordinate post-acquisition financial integration efforts
Build and maintain acquisition pipelines, target screening processes, and M&A reporting tools
Oversee treasury management and deployment of excess cash in accordance with Company investment policies
Support banking, surety, lender, and investment advisor relationships
Conduct strategic capital expenditure analysis and capital allocation planning
Support enterprise risk management initiatives and financial risk assessments
Assist with the Company's ESOP valuation, forecasting, and long-term sustainability planning
Supervise and mentor the Senior Analyst while supporting professional growth and development
Help build and lead the Company's M&A function as acquisition activity expands
Partner closely with Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Operations leadership
Support Board reporting and financial presentations
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence
