Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Research & Development (IMR&D), is recruiting for a Finance Director, Therapeutics Development & Supply (TDS), based in Titusville, NJ or Spring House, PA.

Position Overview

Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) is a world class, scientific organization that partners with and drives IMR&D therapeutic area strategies to create transformational medicines for patients. With more than 4,200 employees in multiple locations around the world, DPDS provides end-to-end discovery, de-risking, product development, formulation, and clinical supply chain expertise.

As a key member of the TDS leadership team, the Finance Director, TDS, will provide financial leadership and analysis to the global TDS organization with a budget of ~$1B of operating expenses, $250M+ in Capex investments, and ~2,800 FTEs. In addition, this role will support reporting and analytics on ~$1B of clinical supply chain project spend. Key activities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial leadership on the Global TDS Senior Leadership Teams

  • Member of IMR&D Global Finance Leadership Team

  • Oversee an organization of 15 including 4 direct reports, including: Managers and Analysts based in Titusville, New Jersey; Spring House, Pennsylvania; Beerse, Belgium; and Cork, Ireland

  • Budgeting, Forecasting and Management of Functional Area expenses, project related expenses, headcount and capital

  • Broad financial leadership over site management and operations in Malvern, Pennsylvania and Leiden, Netherlands IMR&D sites

  • Coordination of financial support change management for the IM site in Bern, Switzerland 

  • Close partnership with Innovative Medicine Supply Chain organization regarding product lifecycle management and development decisions

  • Long Range Financial Planning, including both operating and capital expense

  • Coordination of Quarterly Closing Processes

  • Reporting quarterly Financial Results to the Leadership team

  • Ad Hoc Projects and Analysis

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • As a member of the TDS leadership team, provide financial leadership in developing long term strategies and short-term tactics to deliver cost effective product development and platform innovation, support capital allocation for the strategic optimization of our lab and pilot plant footprint, and shaping the global sourcing strategy.

  • Act as the main point for all financial matters impacting the overall function including operational expenses, project expenses, capital and headcount.

  • Challenge assumptions, develop scenarios, educate multi-disciplinary business partners about financial issues and influence implementation of strategies.

  • Provide leadership and guidance in formulation of scorecard metrics and benchmarking analysis to measure cost, quality and time for activities and strategies of all groups within scope.

  • Utilize financial analysis to provide recommendations for opportunities to create value by either improving cycle time, quality, cost efficiencies, or productivity.

  • Provide Business Development Deal support for Platform Technologies and Process Development

  • Collaborate with IMR&D and both Innovative Medicine Supply Chain (IMSC) and Advanced Therapies Supply Chain (ATSC) and the European principal companies to align on financial reporting and cost transparency

  • Supervise, provide day-to-day guidance and support to managers, analysts, FLDP and/or Co-ops on the global team:

    • Develop, adjust, implement, and maintain organizational design that supports global business partners in multiple locations worldwide. Adapt support structures, when necessary, to accommodate changes in business models and structures.

    • Develop functional goals and objectives that are aligned with the Finance and business goals and objectives.

    • Provide an environment for professional growth of staff which includes actionable feedback, recognition and rewards

    • Provide coaching and mentoring in support of the staff’s development plan

    • Provide accurate and focused Financial Analysis and Management Reporting

    • Ensure quarterly close is done in compliance with SOX and other reporting requirements

    • Provide timely and actionable reporting and analysis of actual vs. forecast for the leadership teams which includes BVA, gross to net P&L (e.g., gross budget less FTE charge outs), headcount and capital

  • Ad Hoc

    • Implement process improvements on internal financial processes (e.g., quarterly close process, forecasting, long range financial and capital plan, etc.).

    • Identify innovative ways to increase efficiency and improve operational effectiveness

    • Ensure that the principles and elements of the Credo, J&J Business policies, Healthcare Compliance policies, GAAP, and Sarbanes Oxley are adhered to in all aspects of job responsibilities

    • Provide support and financial expertise to financial system and process implementations

    • Complete ad hoc projects, process improvements or special requests, as needed


Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required

  • A CPA/CMA or MBA is preferred

  • A minimum of 10 years of Finance/Accounting experience required

  • Prior experience managing and developing direct reports is required

  • Prior experience in R&D or Supply Chain finance is a plus

  • Excellent analytical skills, and ability to partner and influence external partners and people at all levels of the organization is required

  • Superior communication, business partnering, problem solving and prioritization skills are also required

  • The individual must be self-motivated with a track record of demonstrated leadership abilities with both senior business leaders, direct reports and finance colleagues

  • Must have the ability to maintain and improve consistent and sound business processes in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment

  • This role is based in Titusville, NJ or Spring House, PA and will require about 5-10% international travel

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$150,000- $258,750

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
