Position Summary
We seek an accounting intern who wants to pursue a CPA Accounting designation. This position will be based out of our Toronto office. At McCain, we are working in a hybrid model, with some days spent in the office and others working remotely.
In this role, the successful individual will be placed within one of our pre-approved rotational assignments, as noted below, gaining the qualifying practical experience necessary for becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant.
The individual will act as a partner to support the day-to-day operations of one of the respective teams they are assigned to: Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, Financial Planning and Analysis, or Corporate Taxation. These teams play an essential role in McCain's operations and are integral to producing and maintaining financial information within McCain. You will also have the opportunity to gain insight into several business areas.
What You Will Be Working On
The candidate will be assigned to one of the following functions:
FINANCIAL REPORTING
- Research complex accounting issues and recommend treatment (Corporate Accounting)
- Assist with consolidated quarterly and annual financial reporting for 100+ entities in multiple currencies (Corporate Accounting) or month-end financial reporting process (North America)
- Collaborate with external auditors and provide working papers
- Assist in preparing statutory reports for specific jurisdictions
INTERNAL AUDIT
- Conduct financial and operational reviews and create detailed audit reports
- Plan and execute audits to identify efficiency and cost-saving opportunities
- Develop risk assessments and audit methodologies to assess the control environment
- Establish Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) processes and access controls
FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYSIS
- Assist with monthly performance reporting and investigate variances
- Analyze regional and segment performance for improvement recommendations
- Prepare and analyze quarterly/annual forecasts
- Support critical strategic projects
TAXATION
- Prepare corporate income tax returns for low-complexity subsidiaries
- Preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions under IFRS
- Assist with transfer pricing compliance and documentation
- Calculate exempt surplus/safe income for McCain-owned companies
What You Need to Be Successful
- 2nd or 3rd year university student, enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- Interest in obtaining CPA designation
- Demonstrated qualities of integrity and trust
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Adeptness at working effectively within a team
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with strong organizational skills
- Sharp analytical capabilities with keen attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- A results-driven, hands-on, self-motivated work approach
- Proficiency in the English language
