What we are looking for:
Cobre is seeking a forward-thinking Senior Finance Analytics Engineer, to drive the design, development, and optimization of our financial analytics and automation capabilities. In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams—including Finance, Accounting, Product, and Technology—to transform complex financial data into actionable insights while building scalable automation solutions that improve the accuracy, speed, and reliability of financial operations.
This role will collaborate closely with our core data team—responsible for data engineering, analytics, and AI—to align on best practices, promote knowledge sharing, and maintain a unified analytics vision across the organization. You will serve as a critical bridge between Finance/Accounting and Technology, ensuring that new products and system changes are "correct from day one" in terms of financial recording and reporting.
What would you be doing:
- Financial Data Architecture & Automation: Design scalable end-to-end pipelines (dbt, Airflow, Snowflake) to unify and integrate financial data from core banking systems, ERPs, treasury platforms, and transactional databases. Develop and maintain automation solutions—including advanced templates, SQL queries, and AI-powered tools—to reduce manual effort in journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Process Mapping & Improvement: Document end-to-end financial and accounting processes (recording, reconciliation, close, management reporting), identifying bottlenecks, rework loops, and control risks. Define and execute a prioritized improvement roadmap based on impact and effort.
- Financial Data Governance & Quality: Define and strengthen the financial-accounting data model, including sources of truth, chart of accounts, dimensions, and cost drivers. Establish automated controls for data integrity, completeness, and consistency to minimize manual adjustments and discrepancies across systems.
- Financial & Management Reporting Optimization: Rationalize and standardize the portfolio of regulatory and management reports (KPIs, dashboards, analytical cubes), progressively migrating them to modern analytics tools. Enable self-service reporting for key stakeholders while ensuring recurring reports are generated automatically.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the primary liaison between Accounting/Tax and Product, Technology, and Commercial teams. Translate accounting, tax, and reporting requirements into functional and data specifications for new products and system changes, ensuring compliance and accuracy from launch.
- Advanced Financial Analytics: Apply analytical and modeling techniques to support financial decision-making, including FX risk exposure analysis for intercompany transactions, tax efficiency modeling, cash flow forecasting, and financial performance analysis for regulated entities.
What do you need:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative field. CPA, CFA, or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced SQL and Python; experience with modern data warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks); data modeling design; cloud storage services (S3); ETL/ELT tools (Airflow, dbt); and BI/visualization tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
- Finance & Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial and accounting processes including reconciliations, month-end close, intercompany accounting, FX management, and regulatory reporting. Familiarity with ERPs (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and treasury management systems is a plus.
- Automation & Process Improvement: Experience designing and implementing automation solutions (RPA, scripting, workflow tools) to streamline financial operations. Demonstrated ability to map processes, identify inefficiencies, and deliver measurable improvements.
- Analytics Ecosystem Knowledge: In-depth understanding of analytics engineering processes, testing frameworks, and data validation strategies. Ability to translate financial and accounting requirements into technical specifications that drive business impact. Exposure to AI/ML applications in finance is a plus.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and financial stakeholders. Proven stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and mentorship capabilities. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving projects independently.
- Nice to Have: FinTech or banking industry experience; exposure to regulated financial entities; knowledge of Latin American tax and accounting regulations; Agile methodologies.
