Job Description:
The Finance & Accounting Special Projects manager is responsible for managing accounting, valuation and reporting processes associated with mergers and acquisitions or disposal (M&A) transactions.
He/She assists in analyzing and assessing data, performing complex analysis on financial information, periodically researching and documenting the appropriate accounting treatment of transactions based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and other complex project management organizational tasks. These tasks may include indirectly managing others, internal and external to the organization.
He/She will work cross-functionally with various accounting and non-accounting departments to properly identify and address transaction impacts to financial statements. He/She performs accounting research for technical issues and presentation to ensure SEC and other statutory filings comply with GAAP, disclosure requirements, and related accounting and record-to-report controls and process guidance. This position prepares documentation or data-based analysis on accounting treatment for these technical issues. He/She reviews accounting entries and documentation for several complex accounting areas as it pertains to M&A transactions.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Manages project plan to ensure completion of all required tasks and addresses project risk appropriately.
- Prepares and reviews updates to the company’s internal accounting policies and procedures manual, to ensure that accounting personnel in other parts of the company have access to current UPS accounting policies.
- Works cross-functionally throughout M&A life cycle to ensure financial statement accuracy
- Provides updates to senior management for project status and accounting impacts associated with M&A transactions.
- Identifies and prepares US GAAP required accounting documentation, entries, and SEC disclosures as a result of M&A transaction activity.
- Collaborates cross-functionally, globally, flexibly, in a hybrid four day/week office environment. Coordinate live and virtual meetings and working rhythms to drive project results.
- Provides supporting documentation and other materials to the external auditors in conjunction with the completion of their required audits.
Knowledge and Skills
- Applies standard GAAP and accounting data analysis methods; makes recommendations to improve practices or procedures in compliance with GAAP
- Considers industry and financial trends when making account decisions; understands critical aspects of business models and operating structures to provide input into decisions
- Uses the enterprise strategy to identify the key indicators of performance for individuals, departments, and/or groups; creates measures relevant to desired results; recommends methods for measurement (e.g., surveys, focus groups, observations, metrics, etc.)
- Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) – Accounting, Finance – Preferred
- Master’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) – Business Administration, Accounting – Preferred
- Experience with SEC filing and reporting – Preferred
- Experience with data analysis and project management tools - Preferred
- Experience working in a Public Accounting Firm – Preferred
- Experience with acquisition and divestiture accounting - Preferred
