Department OverviewThe ANZ Field Engineering team is part of the System Integration International organisation, and is responsible for designing and guiding the technical implementation of government and commercial communications system solutions, leveraging new technologies and approaches sourced from both inside and outside of Motorola Solutions.
The Field Engineering role forms part of multi-disciplined project teams to design and deliver complex mission critical voice and data systems. The systems may be used directly by our customers or by Motorola Solutions to deliver Managed Services to our customers. The Field Engineers work in the post sales phases of projects and may support multiple projects in a given period depending on size and complexity. There may also be a requirement to provide support to Pre-sales and Services Organisation.
Job Description

As a Field Engineer, you will provide a wide range of hands-on field engineering services to support the government and energy/minerals business, assisting the formulation, delivery and implementation of solutions to customers’ requirements to achieve Total Customer Satisfaction.

The Field Engineer role responsibilities will include the types of activities listed below:

  • Manage and/or perform implementation of communication system solutions and services which satisfy the requirements of the customer, end user and operator

  • Provides technical support for Solution Staging, as required

  • Lead or participate in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) while coordinating the technical aspects of the acceptance testing.

  • Responsible for the installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of MSI and 3rd party solutions (with support from supplier/vendor)

  • roubleshooting of technical issues during project implementation

  • Responsible for on-site Acceptance Tests, while coordinating the technical aspects of the acceptance testing.

  • Update of technical documentation and technical change management

  • Provide technical support during all project phases through to handover to Support organisation

  • Communications - Attend customer meetings, status updates, provide project reporting. 

  • Provide on-site or remote support to the customers and partners

  • Responsible for self development through an agreed training plan,experience and knowledge transfer.

  • Leading the field deployment and day-to-day activities: Deploying, Configuring, commissioning, Testing and troubleshooting systems and solutions.

  • Knowledge transfer from the design team to the implementation team and customer. Coordinate the interface between design and implementation.

  • Identifies and mitigates technical risks; develops and implements risk mitigation plans and recommends corrective actions. 

  • Interface, communicate, and coordinate the customer, partner, sub-contractor on project deployment and best practices where required.

  • Ensure the project is delivered to the Motorola Solutions Quality, Health and Safety standards.

  • Conducts technical implementation assessments directly with end users and project team. 

  • Acts as the primary technical interface to ensure that the contract deliverables are fully understood and actioned.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing system troubleshooting, diagnostic and rectification of technical issues in Motorola Solutions radio communications products and third-party equipment (microwave, multiplexer, RF antenna and power systems) within defined service levels.

  • Carry out a variety of tasks and modify, repair, maintain, upgrade and install communication systems, equipment, parts and accessories

  • Conduct "on-air tests" in accordance with customer operational environment

  • Attend sites (metro and remote) for scheduled Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI) using documented procedures and processes.

  • Participating in a standby roster, 24x7 operation

  • Complete and maintain written, electronic records and paperwork associated with work performed

  • Ensure all operational documentation/systems remain up-to-date and relevant


Basic Requirements

Education and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Year 12 – VCE or equivalent

  • Recognized Electrical Technician Course(s)

  • Basic RF Cabling / Two Way Radio training

  • Cabling License (ACMA - Open)

It will also be beneficial (not mandatory) if you have:

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering (Electrical) or related discipline

  • Industry recognized certification e.g.: (Aviat / NSN / Cisco / HP/ VMware)

  • Cabling Certification/OTJ training

  • Transmission Systems Training

Experience and Skills

Essential:

  • High level of understanding with wired/wireless communication systems and IP Networks

  • 3+ years experience with a wide range of communications products and systems including system installation, commissioning and exposure to customer issues

  • Analysis and fault-finding skills on a systems level

  • Participate in an on call roster system.

It will also be beneficial (not mandatory) if you have:

  • Detailed knowledge of Microwave Linking Systems (Aviat / NSN)

  • Detailed knowledge of WAN technologies, routing & encryption (Cisco / HP / Telstra GWIP)
