The Field Service Application Scientist I is a multi-disciplinary molecular biology and organic chemistry position that will contribute to the organization as part of our Global Field Service team, bringing curiosity, problem solving skills, and scientific acumen to LGC. The Field Service team supports various wings of the organization such as Laboratory Operations, Engineering, Sales, and Manufacturing.
The scope of this position will include field-based customer support, customer assay verification/validation on LGC instrumentation, scientific support for applications development of our technologies, and providing various levels of technical support on our instrumentation and software. As part of this role, the Field Service Application Scientist I will have excellent customer-facing skills combined with a strong understanding of LGC products, including instrumentation and reagents. They will be required to operate laboratory equipment, on-site install of instrumentation, develop testing protocols, troubleshoot, analyse data, and keep current on emerging technologies in the fields of molecular biology, as well as organic chemistry. This position will be developed in a fusion of knowledge from genomics, PCR-based genetic analysis, laboratory automation, Oligo synthesis, DNA extraction, and customer support.
Customer Support and Training: This role merges a trifecta of aptitudes between science, mechanics, and software. Our Field Service Application Scientists assists and works closely with an international customer base around their applications needs in addition to being developed to support both equipment and software problems.
Provide technical support for customer queries, which may require on-site troubleshooting in customer labs. Responsible for collaborating with other internal teams by providing technical and scientific support during the installation of equipment after purchase and enabling customers to seamlessly transition to LGC platforms. As part of this installation process, this role will provide customer training and technical/application related support when needed.
This position includes the responsibility to work with current and potential customers to understand and validate their samples and assays on LGC instrumentation. This may involve evaluating assay design, optimizing PCR reaction conditions, perfecting sample extraction protocols, and/or optimizing oligo synthesis protocols. It will require an understanding of genomics, PCR techniques, and sample extraction methodologies, and oligo required for successful deployment of LGC solutions. In addition, this position may require research and development of novel methods and support of new products in above stated fields.
Applications Support: When remote or in-house, contributes to applications support and/or to the routine operation of the laboratory through supporting day-to-day activities. Responsible for providing scientific support to meet the needs of the various departments within the company.
Engineering Support: Smart hands in the field to support field service engineers, fixes, installations, and PMs.
Sales/Marketing Support: This role may include development of application notes, scientific posters, and other presentation materials in support of sales and marketing. On occasion, it may require travel to represent LGC at tradeshows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Genetics, or related field required.
- Master’s or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Genetics, or related field preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in the field of genetics, molecular biology and/or oligo synthesis. Working knowledge of and/or experience with PCR, Real-Time PCR, nucleic acid purification, data analysis, experimental design, and oligo synthesis is required.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in the field of genetics, molecular biology and/or oligo synthesis. Working knowledge of and/or experience with PCR, Real-Time PCR, nucleic acid purification, data analysis, experimental design, and oligo synthesis is preferred.

The typical pay range for this role is:
Minimum: $ 77,625/yearly
Maximum: $ 129,375/yearly
This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for the California -based position. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as: experience, skills, and location.
