Drives the design chain value proposition by generating design wins and registrations in support of customer product designs, ultimately growing business. Interfaces closely with customer and supplier engineering departments to deliver technical solutions. Performs a variety of product, technical, and engineering functions including pre/post-sales support, research, design, and development.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute technical sales penetration strategies in each market; present new products/technologies to current and potential customers.
  • Understand customer needs related to technology, product direction, competitive landscape, design processes, and design cycles.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key technical decision makers and influencers.
  • Collaborate from the system level down to individual elements to discover requirements and provide technical strategies that solve customer challenges.
  • Drive adoption of supported supplier solutions within the sales team to increase design activity, design wins, and revenue.
  • Provide application- and product-level sales training; proactively align with sales to secure business opportunities.
  • Identify and track high-value design opportunities from concept to production, leveraging supplier resources for maximum success.
  • Create technical presentations and tools to enhance customer engagement and position as a trusted advisor.
  • Manage product lifecycle communication and consultation with customers, sales, and vendors.
  • Research industry players and trends to communicate insights internally and externally.
  • Leverage understanding of product lifecycles to design full customer solutions based on performance, lifecycle, and cost expectations.
  • Attend and complete technical training, maintaining certifications as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Level Specifications

  • Deep understanding of customer needs, business drivers, and competitive offerings; recognized technical expert across multiple product/service areas.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, lead accounts, and develop innovative solutions with high financial/strategic impact.
  • Significant authority in negotiations, with influence on long-term client relationships and organizational reputation.
  • Serves as a consultant to management and external spokesperson on initiatives related to policies, long-range objectives, and major accounts.
  • Errors or poor judgment at this level may have long-term organizational impacts and require significant additional resources to resolve.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years in applications engineering or equivalent technical role.

Education and Certification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

Familiarity with the following technologies is highly desirable:

  • Isolation (optocouplers, industrial fiber for galvanic isolation)
  • Sensors (time of flight, ambient light, proximity, pyroelectric detectors)
  • Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs)
  • Spectrometers
  • Power over Fiber / Optical Power Converters
  • Industrial Fiber (Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet)
  • Motion Control Encoders (optical and magnetic)
  • LEDs & LED Displays

  • $120,000 - $170,000  total (OTE) compensation range
  • Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Actual compensation offered will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, geographic location, candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
