Fall Peak Internship

Logistics Operations Internship Description & General Expectations  

• 13-week Syfan Logistics operations internship program with the operations support team from 09/22/2025 to 12/23/2025 in support of the peak shipping season.
• The intern team member is required by Syfan Logistics to complete a minimum of 20 hours of assigned internship work experience per week.
• Syfan Logistics operations intern team members will work Monday – Friday, at a designated time coordinated with their immediate shift supervisor.
• The team member intern will work specifically with assigned team mentors/team members.
• All intern team members will successfully complete Gear 1 (Syfan Orientation) to learn of the company’s history, mission and value, organizational culture expectations, HR policies and practice, facility orientation, and general safety policies and practices.
• Intern team members will complete additional training, learning and development as required (i.e. Gear 2, Gear 3, Seeds For Success, etc.)
• The intern team member will have in-person progress evaluations with division managers, assigned team mentors, and the Fall internship coordinator to receive feedback on the intern team member’s development, engagement, and progress.

Internship Learning Objectives

• Will demonstrate knowledge of Syfan’s organizational culture and team practices as evidenced by intern team member’s performance and behavior.
• Will demonstrate knowledge of freight movement in third party logistics operations.
• Intern team members will demonstrate Syfan Logistics’ expectations of customer excellence in their assigned roles, responsibilities, and interactions with carriers and customers.   
• Intern team members will learn and practice functions that demonstrate coordination agility and problem solving in their roles as logistics coordinators.
• Intern team members will learn and demonstrate proficiency in logistics customer requirements and division procedures.
• Intern team members will learn and demonstrate technological proficiency in the use of McLeod, other customer-specific Logistics Management Systems, Outlook, and other communication technologies.
• Management majors/concentration: Interns will be able to identify Syfan’s leadership competencies and will observe management practices through individual mentoring with assigned management and intern role experiences.  

Internship Roles and Responsibilities

• Intern team members will be trained and developed as logistics coordinators to work in logistics operations support roles.
• Interns will work in Syfan Logistics’ operations utilizing the “Syfan Way” in freight movement practices.
• Intern team members will demonstrate effective communication skills through the effective handling of inbound and outbound phone calls with carriers and customers as well as effective email communications.
• As a logistics intern team member, Interns will demonstrate proficiency in the utilization of the McLeod TMS (Transportation Management System) and other logistics management technologies in executing logistics operations duties.
• Interns will adhere to Syfan’s standard operating procedures in meeting shipping customer requirements.

• Intern team members can be introduced to additional logistics operations functions to gain additional real-world logistics experience if business and operations conditions allow such opportunities.

• Intern team members will follow the direction of their assigned division manager, assigned team leads, and other members of the operations team as required.
• Intern team members will adhere to all Syfan policies and procedures.

Project Description: There will be no project work required for the Fall semester internship.

Syfan University Training & Internship Support

• Gear 1: Syfan culture, our mission, values, business lines, safety practices, work environment related practices, teamwork philosophy, and internship team member roles and responsibilities.

• Gear 2: Introduction to the transportation logistics industry and the role of 3PL (Third Party Logistics) in the supply chain management spectrum.

• Gear 3: introduction to Syfan Logistics’ TMS (Transportation Management System) called McLeod.
  • Intern team members will also receive training in basic logistics operations support that prepares internship team members for their work experience in logistics operations. 
• Operations Floor Orientation & Training: Training in Syfan Logistics division customer-specific operations and procedures.
• Seeds For Success Training: Interpersonal skill and professional development training with Syfan University’s Learning & Development team. 
• Path to Professionalism: Leadership development experiences with Syfan University’s Learning & Development team.    

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This job operates in a physical office environment and is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands, arms and fingers to effectively operate computer equipment and handle and/or lift objects up to 20 pounds.   

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position is primarily a weekday position scheduled within standard daytime business hours. The position may occasionally require individuals to work outside of normal daytime business hours to handle business needs associated with the position responsibilities.
