BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Tallahassee office was established in 2015 and has resettled over 2,000 refugees from 50 countries into Big Bend communities  

SCOPE OF DEVELOPMENT & GRANTS INTERN WORK: This internship is located within the Resource Development Department, whose purpose is to establish strong, mutually-beneficial connections between the community and the IRC in Tallahassee and Miami in order to garner monetary, in-kind and volunteer resources for clients.  The Development & Grants Intern will work closely with the Resource Development VISTA and Director of Development towards these goals in order to enhance the IRC’s ability to meet client needs. This position requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours a week for at least three months. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  • Conduct research to identify potential grant and community donation opportunities.  

  • Support the Grants Management Specialist in ensuring accurate and up-to-date data across relevant databases.  

  • Compile and analyze program data for grant writing and research purposes.  

  • Collaborate with the Grants Management Specialist to coordinate with the finance and management teams in the development of grant applications.  

  • Support the Grants Management Specialist in the development of grant proposals.  

  • Develop and submit donation applications to secure resources for IRC programs.  

  • Assist with various Resource Development tasks, including community engagement, external communications, event planning, and fundraising efforts.  

  • Represent the organization at community events, networking functions, and recruitment activities alongside the Resource Development team.  

  • Participate actively in staff meetings and contribute to special staff development programs.

This is a hybrid position based in Tallahassee, FL, reporting to the  

Resource Development VISTA.
