Job Purpose:    Safely operates, sets-up and maintains a variety of machines and related tooling including mechanical or hydraulic presses of varying tonnages, welders, core lockers and/or related machines to produce fabricated parts, sub-assemblies, etc., used in the manufacture of filter products.  May simultaneously operate and set up multiple machines. Operates automatic parts washer to clean and protect tapped metal stampings from dirt, rust, etc.;  May perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Reads and interprets various forms of information (shop packet, work instructions, electronic prints, etc.,) to determine proper tooling and raw material requirements as well as set up procedures.  

  2. Prepares tooling and equipment for operation.  Identifies proper tooling and sets tooling in machine, secures tooling in proper location, aligns tooling using basic measuring instruments (tape measure/scale) and secures into place using basic hand tools provided.  Feeds material/parts through machine and adjusts controls to proper settings as required to produce an acceptable first piece. 

  3. Adheres to all safety and environmental regulations and requirements.  Ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition (guards in place, work area free of hazards, etc.) and follows all personal protective equipment requirements.  Observes Lockout/Tagout requirements while setting up/operating equipment. 

  4. Operates and changes over automatic equipment.  Monitors the operation of equipment and makes adjustments to ensure conforming product while maintaining an acceptable production rate.  May receive assistance in performing change over. 

  5. Performs quality checks of fabricated parts at prescribed intervals as defined by the Product Process Record sheets (PPRs).  Locates and interprets information from electronic prints, specification sheets, PPRs, etc.  Checks part dimensions/specification using fixed and hand operated gauges to ensure quality of product/part.  Completes various forms of paperwork (production tickets, PPRs, log books, TPMs, etc.) ensuring accuracy in reporting data.    

  6. Using calipers, micrometers, and various measuring instruments, at prescribed intervals, performs quality checks, such as steel thickness and dimensions, on fabricated parts. 

  7. Responsible for safe and efficient operation of powered industrial equipment.  Performs visual checks and maintains safety checklist; changes forklift batteries and/or refills LP gas tank as required. 

  8. Loads steel/parts, transports various materials (skids, tubs, containers) to/from work area using floor jack, cart, etc., and stacks parts into bins. 

  9. Maintains equipment and tooling in proper working order.  Performs Total Preventive Maintenance operations, such as lubricating, cleaning, observing equipment for wear, etc.  Initiates work orders and works with Tool Room and/or Maintenance to correct malfunctions. 

  10. Polices work area picking up and disposing of scrap, trash, etc., and performs housekeeping tasks. 

  11. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Parts Washer 

  1. Prepares parts washer for operation by checking water temperature and concentration of water solution  (using refractometer).  Makes adjustments to attain correct temperature and/or adds fluids (rust veto, metal cleaners, etc.) to reach correct concentration.  

  2. Operates and monitors operations of parts washer, rake parts from bin to conveyor leading to parts washer, arranges for removal of empty tub and replaces with full tub as needed. 

  3. Transports various materials to/from/within work centers (places empty tub at rear of parts washer, removes full tubs of washed parts to area accessible to forklift, supplies tappers with empty tubs, removes full tubs from tapping area, etc.) using floor jack. 

  4. Maintains inventory of required chemicals necessary to perform parts washing operation. 

  5. Cleans parts washer ensuring that waste is disposed of according to company/environmental regulations. 



Qualifications

Communication:  

Basic communication skills to receive and convey information concerning problems encountered while performing job duties. 

In-person interaction with co-workers and supervisors. 

Learning/Reading/Mathematical Comprehension:  

Perform basic math functions such as addition and subtraction using whole numbers and decimals. 

Learn and comprehend standard operating procedures and basic production techniques 

Read and write to complete required paperwork and access information on the computer.  

Independent judgment to troubleshoot, audit and changeover various types of equipment 

Visual Requirements: 

Distinguish between various items for proper length, width, shape, color and other characteristics. 

Read various digital and dial measuring instruments. 

Motor Skills: 

Hand/eye coordination to setup and changeover equipment using hand tools and operate various gauges and measuring devices. 

Stand for long periods of time regularly. 

Bend, push/pull and reach with hands and arms frequently 

Frequently lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. 

Environment: 

Work in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, possible temperature extremes, dirt, tapping fluids, oils, solvents, etc. 

Special Skills: 

Read basic product blueprints. 

Dependability:  

Maintain satisfactory record of attendance and conduct.  Work any shift and overtime as required.
