As an External Reporting Manager you will work closely with the Director, External Reporting in performing, assisting with, and/or coordinating all aspects of the Company’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting activities, including preparation and review of footnote disclosures and XBRL; analyzing cash flows and other significant or unusual transactions. In addition, you will assist in the following areas:
Lead and support External Reporting efforts:

Assist in preparation of SEC quarterly and annual reports in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting rules, including financial statements, footnote disclosures and XBRL exhibits

Assist in the collection of required data for SEC disclosures
-
Assist in the preparation of the Company’s quarterly earnings releases and related GAAP to Non-GAAP reconciliation package
-
Prepare standalone financial statements for the company’s employee benefit plans for submission to the Department of Labor (DOL)

Analyze balance sheet accounts during quarterly close
-
Query and collect data to support compliance with Government reporting requirements

Assist with analysis of certain technical accounting areas as needed, including accounting for defined benefit plans and restructuring
Support technical accounting team efforts:

Assist in preparing developing/deploying training materials for field finance teams

Assist in providing/reviewing content in quarterly newsletters for world-wide finance team

Assist accounting personnel worldwide with select US GAAP accounting issues as required

Assist with efforts in support of M&A activity as needed

Develop credibility and collaborative relationships with peers and upper management by:

Investing time to understand Thermo Fisher’s business and industries through collaboration on ad hoc projects with cross-functional teams including Investor Relations, Human Resources, FP&A, Treasury, Real Estate, Operations, and Legal.
Keys to Success
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Certified Public Accountant (current active or inactive license)
Experience:
-
5+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years of Big 4 accounting firm experience, preferred.
-
Desired candidates will have worked with public companies in life sciences or technology, but not mandatory.

Experience with US GAAP, SEC reporting and familiarity with internal controls over financial reporting
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Strong project management skills

Experience with complex, multinational enterprises preferred
-
Excel expertise with advanced knowledge of pivots and formulas Self-motivated with a bias for action

Effective oral and written communication skills

Experience with Hyperion or other financial databases preferred

Acting with integrity and demonstrating strong professional judgment

Maintaining a positive attitude and desire for continuous improvement

Demonstrating resilience and adaptability to changing business priorities
