About the RoleApex is seeking a dynamic, organized, and driven Export Compliance Specialist to join our expanding team. As a company at the forefront of space exploration and satellite technology, Apex is looking for an individual capable of assisting with the company’s complex export compliance program. As a subject matter expert, the Global Trade Compliance Specialist will ensure that all of Apex’s commodities, data, and technology are properly classified and marked accordingly. This role also is responsible for assisting in the preparation of necessary export licenses and agreements and supporting the Export Compliance Manager with special projects as necessary. This position sits within the Legal Department, and works closely with the Mission Management, Product, Business Development, and Supply Chain teams.
Roles & Responsibilities:
· Ensure compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other applicable trade rules.
· Conduct jurisdiction and classification analyses (e.g., ECCN, USML categories), maintain internal classification databases, and prepare procedures related to same.
· Interface with suppliers to obtain, verify, and log OEM product classifications.
· Assist with preparation internal databases of all export licenses, detailing relevant dates, parties, and scope of licenses.
· Respond to requests for information, analysis of export compliance impact and review of contract provisions relating to export and security controls as needed.
· Support and conduct compliance assessments and audits.
· Review documents on an ad hoc basis for export compliance
· Screen transactions against restricted party lists and embargoed country lists.
· Assist with internal audits and risk assessments to identify and correct potential compliance issues.
· Perform other job-related duties as assigned
· Perform special projects as needed.
Requirements
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in export compliance.
· Broad and deep background in performing Order of Review specifically with items subject to ITAR Categories IV and XV, and EAR 500-series.
· Ability to facilitate work within and across teams and varied functions and levels of leadership, and customer and supplier contacts.
· Ability to lead process improvements.
· Ability to communicate the importance of export compliance practices effectively to staff and leadership.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
· Strong interpersonal and professional skills.
· A positive, team-player attitude.
Nice-to-Have
· Experience in satellite manufacturing or related industries (aerospace, defense, or high-tech) is strongly preferred.
