Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

We are seeking an Export Compliance Specialist to support managing and maintaining Ursa Major’s compliance program and policies as well as function as an Assistant Facility Security Officer. You will support the Compliance Manager in providing guidance in various areas of compliance, including knowledge of a variety of state and federal laws and regulations impacting Ursa Major’s core business. A successful candidate will also face unfamiliar areas of compliance confidently, learning on-the-go and leading the rest of the team through ambiguities.

  • Serve as the primary support for Export Compliance processes including drafting International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) export licenses and export license agreements (i.e., technical assistance agreements, commerce license requests, etc.) and performing due diligence
  • Assist the Compliance Manager in partnering with the Digital Operations and other teams to comply with various frameworks and industry standards relevant to cybersecurity risk mitigation, including NIST 800-171 and CMMC 2.0
  • Maintain and update written policies and procedures to comply with United States trade, export laws and national security laws including the ITAR, EAR, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and 32 CFR Part 117 National Industrial Security Operating Manual (NISPOM)
  • Assist in leading Compliance and Facility Clearance team trainings
  • Partner with Manufacturing and Quality teams to enhance quality management systems and facilitate overall regulatory compliance (experience with AS9100 and ISO9001 is a plus)
  • Utilize knowledge of regulatory requirements (ITAR, EAR, OFAC, DFARS, FAA, NIST 800-171, CMMC 2.0) to complete regulatory requests and tasks
  • Assist, support and perform internal and external audits
  • Participate and assist in leading a cross-functional site security team
  • As part of the site security function, assist in managing the Berthoud visitor process and physical site security
  • Perform administrative tasks, trainings, reporting, assessment and record keeping duties in the role of Assistant Facility Security Officer

Minimum experience

  • 2+ years of experience coordinating efforts in a regulated industry
  • Proficient experience in supporting and coordinating efforts to maintain compliance standards
  • Familiarity with International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
  • Cross department engagement experience ideally in legal, regulatory, and cybersecurity risks with organizational goals
  • Skilled in detail-oriented work, recordkeeping and continual improvement (i.e. risk assessment)
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in aerospace or defense
  • Experience with U.S. export licensing platforms (SNAP-R and DECCS)
  • Experience supporting or maintaining a trade compliance program, including Export Jurisdiction and Classification, Commerce and State Department license writing and tracking

What We Do

At Ursa Major, we are powering the future of aerospace. We see aerospace advancement as a technological imperative and we’re accelerating the industry as the leading source of world-class propulsion systems.

We meticulously design, craft, and test engines that are optimized to offer high performance, diverse capability, and unwavering reliability.

Why Work With Us

As much as we value talent, we know that it’s meaningless without the drive, humility, and hunger to work on a team. A team shares a common goal and obsesses about achieving it together. This requires leaving egos at the door and committing to do whatever’s required (within reason) to achieve mission success.
