Join us, the future is ours to shape!The Payroll Expert is responsible for supporting end-to-end payroll operations and supporting payroll delivery for Sandoz India ensuring accurate, compliant and timely delivery while maintaining compliance with local legislation, company policies and internal controls.
The role works closely with internal stakeholders and payroll vendors to deliver a high-quality employee payroll experience. The role requires strong analytical capability, ownership and a continuous improvement mindset.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations & Governance
- Support end-to-end payroll processing activities for India across monthly, quarterly and annual payroll cycles.
- Validate payroll inputs including attendance, leave, benefits, variable pay, overtime, recoveries and statutory deductions.
- Perform payroll quality checks, reconciliations and variance analysis for payroll accuracy.
- Investigate payroll discrepancies and coordinate timely resolution with relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation in line with internal controls.
Payroll Statutory & Compliance Management
- Support compliance with Indian statutory requirements including Income Tax, PF, ESI, Professional Tax, Labour Welfare Fund and other applicable regulations.
- Assist in year-end payroll activities including Form 16 generation, tax reconciliations and statutory reporting.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and support payroll audits.
- Ensure payroll activities are processed in alignment with company policies and compliance requirements.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Act as a point of contact for payroll-related employee and manager queries.
- Coordinate with payroll vendors to ensure timely processing and payroll issues resolution.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance and other stakeholders to ensure payroll data accuracy.
- Support issue resolution and escalation management as required.
Systems & Process Support
- Maintain payroll data within payroll and HR systems such as Workday and ADP GV.
- Support payroll testing activities related to system changes, process improvements and statutory updates.
- Contribute to payroll process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain SOPs, process documentation and knowledge articles.
Service Excellence
- Manage payroll-related requests within agreed service levels.
- Deliver timely and accurate support to employees and stakeholders.
- Contribute to a positive employee experience through responsive and professional payroll support.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing and team collaboration activities
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
- 4 - 7 years of experience in India payroll operations, preferably within a multinational or shared services environment.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Indian payroll legislation, taxation, PF, ESI, and statutory compliance.
- Experience working with payroll vendors and payroll platforms such as ADP GV, Workday, SAP, or similar HRIS systems.
- Strong payroll reconciliation, data validation, and audit support experience.
- Good understanding of payroll controls, compliance requirements, and risk management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyze, validate and manage large datasets with a high degree of accuracy.
