We are seeking an early-career Expert Engagement and Research Associate to help build and operate Kroll's global Technical Experts practice. The role will coordinate a network of independent engineering and scientific experts, support new appointments, and maintain the information, systems, and written materials needed to match the right expert to each matter. It will work closely with Kroll's delay, quantum, and wider disputes teams.
The position suits a motivated, intellectually curious high achiever with one to five years of experience and exceptional writing skills. An engineering background is not required, but you must be eager to understand unfamiliar scientific and technical subjects, ask precise questions, and communicate clearly. The role combines practice operations, research, business development support, and selected billable case work.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Coordinate the onboarding, administration and ongoing management of independent experts, acting as a primary point of contact and maintaining accurate records of contracts, conflicts of interest, availability, rates, access status, and technical discipline.
Identify, approach, evaluate, and cultivate relationships with potential experts globally across priority engineering and scientific disciplines, and identify strong candidates when the practice has a capability gap.
Write, edit and review high-quality credentials, proposals, expert biographies, briefing notes, technical reports, presentations, and marketing materials, ensuring complex technical concepts can be clearly understood by non-technical audiences.
Coordinate conflict and independence checks, engagement documentation, IT access, vendor setup, and related compliance and operational requirements with Kroll's internal teams.
Respond to expert-search requests by clarifying the technical need, preparing shortlists, checking availability, and arranging discussions with suitable candidates.
Support Sector Leaders and case teams with engagement logistics, budgets, time and invoice administration, document management, and progress tracking.
Maintain clear dashboards and records for the expert pipeline, active appointments, revenue, gross profit, referrals, and cross-practice opportunities.
Support client and counsel outreach, publications, events, and referrals between the Technical Experts practice and Kroll's delay, quantum, and investigations teams.
Provide research, analysis, report review and defined administrative support to technical expert, delay, and quantum engagements, including selected billable work where appropriate, developing an understanding of legal, procedural and expert witness requirements and recognising when additional guidance or input is required.
Essential Traits:
Minimum of two years relevant experience in professional services, research, consulting, disputes, communications, operations, or a comparable environment.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with evidence of producing concise, accurate, and well-structured work for demanding readers.
A minimum of bachelor’s degree - and a preferred, but not essential, writing-intensive discipline such as the humanities, or equivalent evidence of experience with analytical ability.
Intellectual curiosity about engineering and science, and the confidence to learn unfamiliar technical subjects without pretending to be the expert.
Rigorous research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise technical, commercial, and case information into clear written advice.
Highly organised and meticulous, with the ability to track concurrent requests, deadlines, records, and follow-up actions reliably.
Professional and confident when working with senior experts, counsel, clients, and colleagues across different practices and regions.
Sound judgment, discretion, initiative, and a willingness to take ownership of both detailed operational work and broader practice-building tasks.
The employee's nominal place of work shall be London. However, attendance in the London office will generally be required for only two days per month, with the remainder of working time undertaken remotely from home.
