Job Description:
What You'll Do
The Expert Data Engineer is responsible for driving and influencing Discover's strategic technology decisions for Data and is highly sought-after by peers within the whole organization for their knowledge and opinions. This role actively researches new tech solutions and ways to build technical capabilities, applying them into Discover's framework. The engineer actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.
How You'll Do It
- Provides leadership and consultation across multiple large-scale and complex data solutions
- Defines enterprise-level best practices and creates business solutions for end-to-end data integration framework to be deployed to the enterprise. Applies knowledge to drive product and business strategy
- Incorporates industry best practices with that of our enterprise to influence Discover's strategic data-related technology decisions
- Actively researches new tech solutions and ways to build technical capabilities
- Creates opportunities for Discover tech teams to learn industry best practices
- Stays up to date on the latest industry trends, security policies, and regulations on data and technology
- Drives Discover's strategic direction aligned to Quality Assurance Testing and Operational Excellence across the department
- Understands compliance laws and regulations to influence Discover's Data Governance procedures
Qualifications You'll Need
The Basics
- Bachelors - Computer Science
- 8+ years - Data Platform Administration/Engineering
- Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of Expert on the Dreyfus scale.

Bonus Points If You Have
- Experience working with and understanding of data related to Financial domains.
- Programming languages (Java, Python,)
- Leverage CI/CD framework for data integration, Open Source
- Experience working in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience optimizing SQL both relational and NoSql
- External applicants will be required to perform a technical interview.

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $129,000.00 to $217,400.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
