The Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute Cardiac Rehab Department at Cleveland Clinic offers an exciting and dynamic environment for exercise physiologists, performing over 8,000 inpatient and 7,000 outpatient cardiac rehab visits each year. This diverse patient population, from individuals undergoing preventive testing to those with complex cardiac and pulmonary conditions, provides both a challenging and highly educational experience. As an Exercise Physiologist, you will develop individualized exercise prescriptions and oversee exercise progression for patients with cardiovascular disease in a rehabilitative setting. In this role, you will conduct patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including assessments of strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance. Using test data, patient status and current medication regimens, you will create and update exercise prescriptions based on patient responses.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working days between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with Saturday availability.

This position is primarily based at Main Campus with some shifts at Fairview Hospital, and have the option to pick up shifts at any site if they choose.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.  

  • Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.  

  • Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.  

  • Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.  

  • Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.  

  • Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.  

  • Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in exercise-related field

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Background in Cardiac Rehabilitation

  • Experience with Inpatient Care (Post-Surgery Patients, Monitoring Vitals, etc.)

  • Working Knowledge of EKG Rhythms

  • Understanding of Telemetry Monitoring

  • Flexibility to Work in Both Inpatient and Outpatient Settings

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.

  • Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.

  • Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
