Job Responsibilities:Provides a safe and controlled environment for patients to engage in exercise, regularly evaluating current equipment to ensure its suitability for innovative exercise routines
Develops, implements, and progresses individualized exercise prescriptions tailored to each patient’s medical history, current status, and limitations, utilizing current evidence-based literature
Stays up-to-date with peer-reviewed literature related to cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, as well as exercise considerations for patients with comorbidities, ensuring best practices are followed
Participates in the clinical training and orientation of new and existing staff members, contributing to the completion of clinical competencies at the time of hire and annually
Monitors and assesses patients' resting vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, etc.) and their response to exercise, adhering to department protocols to maintain patient safety and health
Assesses bariatric patients during physical activity screenings and prepares individualized exercise recommendations based on the UHS Bariatric Surgery Program guidelines
Educates patients on exercise safety and techniques to safely engage in physical activity outside of the clinical setting, customized to their unique limitations
Collaborates with the Nursing Coordinator and Unit Manager to facilitate Performance Improvement (PI) activities, track PI data, and help develop PI action plans
Works with the Nursing Coordinator and Unit Manager to ensure compliance with Joint Commission, NYS DOH, Infection Control, Medicare, and other regulatory standards
Participates in ongoing educational opportunities to enhance professional knowledge, and works with the Nursing Coordinator to provide updates and serve as a clinical resource for staff
Performs regular assessments and re-assessments of patients to track progress and adjust exercise prescriptions as necessary, maintaining close attention to patient safety
Leads and facilitates group or individual exercise sessions, ensuring each program is tailored to the patient's ability, health condition, and rehabilitation goals
Minimum Required:
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or related field
Documentation of current CPR certification required within 1 week of employment.
ACLS certification within 3 months of employment.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or related.
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Exercise Specialist (CES) or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP)
American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP)
