Business Banking (BB) manages relationships with Commonwealth Bank’s small-medium enterprise customers, mid-market corporate customers, and regional and agribusiness customers, providing a wide range of financial services and solutions. It also services our personal and institutional online trading customers.
The Executive Product Owner (EPO) role will report to the Crew Lead and lead the Tailored Transactions squad within the Crew. The EPO will be accountable for setting a multi-year strategic vision and quarterly roadmap, based on customer insights, sound commercial management, and linked back to the Business Bank and organisational strategies.
The role is accountable for core P&L management of the Tailored Transaction account products and related propositions, managing risk and regulatory obligations, and ensuring our products retain strong product/market fit.
You will collaborate with Customer Journey and delivery Product Squads in the Crews, other BB Crews and business stakeholders and is expected to have highly advanced influencing skills. The EPO will own and manage pricing, financials, licensing, ROI, and supplier relationships. They will drive a quarterly prioritisation process for their squad, manage a backlog of initiatives and define metrics and outcomes that align to our strategy. The EPO is accountable for managing the squad’s performance to defined objectives and leading the squad’s delivery against prioritised initiatives.
Do Work That Matters
- Accountable for addressing impediments, driving decisions and resolving escalations.
- Act as the voice of the customer and the business and translate this for the team.
- Attract and develop talent including interviewing, recruitment, hiring, and mentoring of product owners.
- Create a long-term business culture and mode of operation across the Product Owner community and chapter.
- Establish the value proposition for the product and segment-specific propositions such as controlled monies, in collaboration with stakeholders (Business and Technology).
- Incorporate design thinking and analytics to inform product design.
- Lead a team of product managers.
- Provide senior people leadership and management.
- Lead and develop the product roadmap, and engagement with senior stakeholders/business units (Business and Technology) to execute the delivery of the product roadmap.
- Maintain a well prioritised backlog to deliver business and customer outcomes.
- Manage senior business and technical stakeholders to ensure that prioritisation is understood and agreed to.
- Manage the Squad’s performance against defined objectives including OKR tracking, etc.
- Own and manage pricing, financials, licensing, Return On Investment and/or supplier relationships.
- Release prototypes and iterate a product that meets customer needs and achieves the Crew’s goals.
What you bring:
- Risk mindset – all CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks.
- Advanced strategic thinking and communication skills; able to articulate a multi-year strategy and roadmap, and turn this into a highly valuable roadmap of deliverables
- Prior experience in managing Business Banking products or processes is preferred
- Advanced P&L management at scale in balance sheet-critical roles
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to translate technology solutions into customer benefits.
- Advanced commercial acumen and the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Ability to deliver written and verbal updates to senior executive level.
- Demonstrated ability to drive business growth and strategically problem solve.
- Strong collaboration with teams on work streams/ project activities end-to-end and independently manage deliverables.
- Experience working in an agile environment advantageous.
- Proven experience in financial services, ideally with a background in tailored transactional products such as statutory trust accounts.
