As an Executive Producer, you will lead technology-focused projects, manage client relationships, and ensure high-quality technical deliverables while mentoring the team and promoting strategic growth.
Summary Generated by Built In

Instrument is a design and technology company. We build brands, products, and experiences that move businesses forward—by making the complex simple.
For over 20 years, we’ve partnered with companies like Google, ServiceNow, Uber, Eventbrite, and ŌURA, helping them navigate change, launch new ideas, and grow with intention.
Our work spans Brand, Marketing, and Product, but what defines us is how we work. We bring strategy, design, and engineering together from the start, moving quickly from idea to execution and refining as we go. We aim to do great work and be great to work with, because both matter.
We’re a collaborative, hands-on team with roots in Portland and New York and a distributed presence across the U.S. and Europe. We build teams around the needs of the work, staying nimble without sacrificing craft.
We value curiosity, perspective, and continuous learning, and we’re committed to building an inclusive environment where people can do their best work.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.

You operate as an expert and innovator in the craft of production and delivery, acting as an experienced multidisciplinary project lead, managing technology-heavy projects or work streams within a development team at Instrument. As an Executive Producer, you will help lead our team to create the best technical work, and play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless communication, coordination, and execution within the development team and the broader project production team. You are also a key client partner, establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with client technology partners, which allows you to identify and help secure innovative project opportunities as you manage the current work to success. You are an exceptional and inspirational leader, and a trusted advocate for your team, the client, and the user. You prioritize people in your management methods, knowing that the work will be better when we support people to be healthy and balanced.

What You'll Do

  • Confidently and autonomously lead the development portion of our most complex projects successfully, in partnership with technology and Client Services project leadership. You are responsible for technical quality of service, on-time and on-budget completion of development deliverables across projects, reporting to the Honeycomb Technical Director.
  • Lead and maintain key client relationships on a project basis, positioning Instrument as a strategic, technical, and innovation partner. Be a dynamic, honest, and trusted partner to your clients, developing and maintaining processes and proactively surfacing risks with your Technical Director/Assoc. Technical Director, and producers on the project team.
  • Champion the team’s vision in the work while advocating for client goals and user needs.
  • Assess if what we have created (in concept or execution) is the most effective and innovative solution. Always push the team to get there.
  • Work with the team leads to properly unpack and plan the development process for awarded projects, accounting for all risks and dependencies for development, and ensuring a thorough kickoff that will lead to the successful and timely completion of development deliverables with a high level of satisfaction from both the team and the client
  • Monitor the health and happiness of development project teams, proactively flagging, implementing measures, or taking action to adjust in response to any issues for optimal morale, in partnership with your Technical Director/Assoc. Technical Director and Client Services project leaders
  • Mentor and lead producers through Instrument’s methodology and best practices as assigned
  • Maintain development velocity throughout the project lifecycle, proactively surfacing risks to delivery to minimize down-time, ensuring people are involved at the appropriate times for project success.
  • Play an active role in managing team development resources, including partnering with technical vendors and freelancers, with clarity and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Tech Leads to write, clarify, refine, assign, and estimate tickets.
  • Develop a deep understanding of project scope, and actively participate in decision making to surface development delivery risks and considerations that avoid scope creep within the creative process.
  • Keep an open channel between the development team and the Client Services teams so as to maintain awareness of project goals and overall progress.
  • Lead "design breakdown" sessions with project developers to ensure a clear understanding of tasks.
  • Take charge of sprint planning and estimation meetings to drive efficiency in project execution.
  • Sprint Planning and Evaluation:
  • Facilitate a sprint planning meeting for tech leads & senior devs to plan each sprint's work load.
  • Facilitate weekly estimation meetings and ensure there is adequate work in the development pipeline to be estimated
  • Maintain a development roadmap and hold developers accountable for work assigned to them within designated sprints and timelines.
  • Facilitate recurrent development team sprint retrospectives that review outcomes and reduce barriers to success to delivery
  • Communicate regularly with the broader project team regarding status and progress throughout the sprint.
  • Technical Cross-discipline Assessment:
  • Maintain a clear focus on the project's overall vision and regularly assess with the team for alignment, progressively flagging risks and barriers to success
  • Proactively identify and flag potential risks that may impact project timelines, deliverables, or quality.
  • Critically assess strategy and design output to ensure alignment with project objectives, providing constructive feedback and considerations to enhance the quality of deliverables.
  • Establish feedback loops for continuous improvement, ensuring the team's ability to anticipate and mitigate risks effectively aligns with the project's overarching vision and goals.

What You'll Bring

  • 7-9 years’ experience leading the production of technical teams, managing projects and/or products, and owning enterprise-level client relationships in a digital and/or agency environment
  • Expert creation and maintenance of iterative technical project and team management approaches and methods
  • Proven ability to demonstrate effective and inclusive project management best practices
  • Tact, humility, common sense, and maturity in interacting with people at all levels, internally and externally—especially maintaining a calm confidence in challenging situations
  • Expertise with software development processes and terminology.
  • Strategic thinking and creative problem solving approaches that don’t sacrifice attention to detail and outside input
