Job Summary/Description:

WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky, is seeking a dynamic Executive Producer for its award-winning news department. We are looking for a news leader and innovator to grow the morning audience and direct the creation of local news content across broadcast, digital, mobile app, OTT, and social media platforms.

We’re proud to be the winner of this year’s regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Breaking News, Digital, and Excellence in Innovation. We have the tools for success: an outstanding, dedicated team in front of the camera and behind the scenes; live capabilities with multiple live trucks and TVUs; the market’s first investigative team; and access to a drone for enhancing coverage.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Help lead and coach our team of producers to create and showcase compelling on-air content using strong editorial, journalistic, organizational, and communication skills
• Work closely with other news managers, assignment editors, and the weather and sports departments to determine content needs and the most effective execution plan
• Enhance and empower others to make content stronger with graphics, research, and station branding
• Write clearly for multiple platforms on tight deadlines, demonstrating creativity and strong editorial judgment while following journalistic ethics and libel laws
• Lead the creation of significant, original, locally focused stories for our digital platforms
• Ensure engaging content on Facebook, X, and other social media platforms that draws users to our digital platforms

Digital & Audience Growth Expectations:
• Lead a cross-platform approach so every major story is executed for streaming coverage, the news app, the website, and social media—not just broadcast
• Drive and reinforce 24/7 workflows that support fast, frequent publishing and strong coordination between producers, digital teams, and managers
• Oversee breaking news execution across platforms, ensuring immediate, accurate updates on streaming, app, web, and social (including push alerts when warranted)
• Ensure digital presentation and packaging are strong and consistent (headlines, writing, video/graphics, station voice/brand) to maximize reach and engagement
• Use performance data and real-time audience signals to adjust coverage, improve storytelling, and coach teams toward measurable audience growth

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or a related field (required)
• Self-starter with strong leadership and newsroom collaboration skills
• Knowledge of and ability to operate state-of-the-art television news equipment as well as website/app publishing tools
• Strong editorial judgment, ethics, and the ability to thrive under daily deadline pressure
