Position Summary: 

 

The Executive Director oversees the overall direction of hospice services, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and Georgia-specific regulations. This role is responsible for hiring and managing qualified hospice personnel, overseeing the delivery of hospice services, and establishing standards of care. The Executive Director also develops, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives that uphold quality standards and align with the organization's mission and philosophy.

Hours / Schedule:  Full Time; (40) hours / week.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A master’s degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in healthcare and/or hospice management. 
  • Must meet Georgia state requirements for hospice administrators (see below).
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing is preferred.
  • Georgia requires that the hospice administrator must be either:
  • A Georgia-licensed healthcare professional (physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, registered professional nurse, clinical social worker, physical therapist, or psychologist) with at least one (1) year of supervisory or management experience in a hospice setting; OR
  • An individual with education, training, and experience in health services administration and at least two (2) years of supervisory or management experience in a hospice setting.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Serve as the qualified hospice administrator, designated by the governing body, responsible for the ongoing and day-to-day operation of the hospice in compliance with Georgia regulations.
  • Oversee operational planning and budgeting to ensure financial stability.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including Georgia hospice administrator rules.
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures for hospice and palliative care, developed with interdisciplinary participation from the hospice care team.
  • Employ and retain qualified staff, including physicians, practitioners, nurses, social workers, clergy, volunteers, and other providers.
  • Ensure a qualified clinical staff are in place to meet patient needs.
  • Oversee staff orientation, in-service training, annual education, competency testing, and quality assessment performance improvement.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and ensure staff and volunteers are trained in hospice and palliative care, including services for persons with advanced and progressive diseases.
  • Ensure mechanisms are in place to facilitate effective communication among staff, the hospice care team, patients, families, and legal guardians.
  • Uphold ethical business and patient care practices, prohibiting any activities that violate laws or standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes.
  • Manage and resolve conflicts and complaints effectively.
  • Establish and maintain clear communication channels, integrating technology as needed.
  • Ensure hospice personnel remain current with clinical practices and information.
  • Maintain adequate and appropriate staffing levels.
  • Provide supportive services and resources to personnel.
  • Foster coordination between departments, services, and senior management.
  • Keep staff and the organization informed of local and national hospice trends and issues.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to achieve identified goals.
  • Direct staff in admissions, discharges, transfers, revocations, and patient care services.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision of staff during all service hours.
  • Monitor service utilization to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
  • Authorize and oversee services provided by external agencies.
  • Track operational progress toward strategic and operational goals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Governing Body.
  • Maintain sufficient space, equipment, and supplies for operations.
  • Establish actionable objectives based on service and personnel evaluations.
  • Promote interdisciplinary care through structured systems.
  • Collaborate with agencies and vendors for effective service management.
  • Maintain high ethical standards in business and clinical practices.
  • Comply with the Georgia Rules and Regulations for Criminal Background Checks (Chapter 111-8-12), as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department goals and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the community.
  • Knowledge of corporate business management.
  • Understanding of hospice care and interdisciplinary team services provided to patients and families/caregivers.
  • Intimate knowledge of Medicare Hospice Certification requirements.
  • Familiarity with Georgia state regulations for hospice administrators and operations.
