JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Commissioner Customs and Excise; the purpose of this role is to develop
and implement strategies for trade facilitation that align with national
policies and international trade agreements.This
role also exists to lead initiatives to simplify and streamline customs
procedures to minimize trade barriers and enhance the ease of doing business.
KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops
and implements trade facilitation policies and strategies aligned with
international standards and agreements.
Streamlines
customs procedures to expedite the clearance of goods and reduce trade
barriers.
Ensures
compliance with customs regulations and trade agreements while enforcing
measures to combat illicit trade activities.
Engages
with government agencies, industry associations, and international
organisations to foster collaboration and alignment on trade facilitation
initiatives.
Provides
training and capacity building programs for customs officers and stakeholders
to enhance their skills and knowledge in trade facilitation.
Implements
technology solutions such as electronic customs systems to automate and
digitize trade processes.
Promotes
trade promotion activities and initiatives to facilitate market access for
businesses and promote exports.
Monitors
and evaluates the effectiveness of trade facilitation measures and adjusting
strategies as needed to optimize outcomes.
Represents
BURS in international forums, negotiations, and agreements on trade
facilitation matters.
Provides
guidance, assistance, and support to traders and businesses on customs
procedures, regulations, and trade facilitation initiatives.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A Master’s
Degree in either International Trade, Economics, Accounting, Customs, Law, or
related fields. A professional certification in Trade Facilitation, Customs, or
International Trade is an added advantage.
At least 10 years relevant work experience
in trade facilitation, customs operations, or international trade, with a
minimum of 5 years in a management capacity.
