Gatehouse Ministries is a non-profit located in Redding, California whose mission is to help third-culture university students & missionary kids (TCK’s & MK’s) to assimilate into American culture while they attend Simpson University.

Gatehouse was founded in 1999 by David & Janet Kronbach and has powerfully impacted over 300 student’s lives by walking with them during their university experience by offering a loving, supportive, home-like family environment.

Redding, California is known as the “jewel of the northwest”, just south of the majestic & world renown Mt. Shasta, west of Mt. Lassen and surrounded by the Trinity Mountains. The Sacramento River runs through the city and is surrounded by beautiful lakes. This area is known for its many outdoor activities year-round.

Directors Wanted:

Our current directors will be finishing their directorship August 1, 2025. We would like the Directors to start August 1st, if not sooner. This has typically been a position for a husband and wife. The overall job description for this position is both Executive Director of the non-profit, as well as the Residential Manager.

About:

We are an off-campus dorm with the capacity of 8-9 students. The goal is a family-like atmosphere with dinners together 4 nights, short “family” meetings once a week & daily /weekly member work responsibilities for each student. There is a Men’s Wing and a Women’s Wing separated by dining room, kitchen, sunroom/extra table & storage room, living room and laundry room. The Director’s apartment adjoins one wing but has a separate exit and a semi-private patio area. The house is ¼ mile from campus; some students have cars & all are provided a ten-speed bicycle if needed. The students are under the rules and regulations of Simpson U and the student handbook. Likewise, the directors are under the rules and regulations for Simpson U staff.

The address of GH is 1695 College View Drive, Redding, CA 96003 but mail goes to the Simpson mailroom. GH is on a 2.5 acre lot.

Residential Managers Position:

a. Evaluate applications for the student positions each semester as approved by Simpson University Housing Department. Conduct interviews for students that qualify, and work with the board to make final selection of students for Gatehouse.

b. The Residential Managers are an overall support person for the students. Many of these students need help transitioning from an international experience to living in the US. This means helping them with basic things like getting a driver’s license, navigating setting up a bank account, setting up healthcare appointments, etc.

c. The Residential Managers also acts as an overall mentor to help the students’ set goals for their educational journey, to be a listening ear to students on their journey at school, and to help hold them accountable.

d. The Residential Manages also acts as spiritual companion for students. Some students may be Christians and others may have different world views. The directors create a safe space for all students and walks with students on an individual basis.

e. The Residential Managers plan & oversees 4 dinners per week. It is highly encouraged for students to attend these meals as breaking bread together are the community rhythms which make Gatehouse feel

like a family. The directors usually cook, and students are involved with food prep/clean up. Grocery shopping & meal planning is up to the directors & they may include the students if they would like to.

f. The Residential Managers are also responsible to care for the property inside and outside. It up to the directors to assign jobs to students to help with this. Jobs are regular indoor cleaning as well as outdoor yard maintenance like mowing, light landscaping work, etc.

g. The Directors should plan some fun outings for the community like Christmas party, days at the lake, snow/skiing days, game nights, full-moon kayaking at Whiskeytown Lake, etc.

Executive Director Duties:

a. This job requires the directors to attend to administration duties required to keep a 501c3 in good standing. This requires reporting to the bookkeeper and keeping the 501c3 in good status with the IRS by completing the 990 IRS form & the 199 form for the State.

b. The directors are responsible for thank you letters to donors, sending out donor receipts and overseeing the quarterly newsletter. (Greg Collard, a board member, will help with this)

c. The directors need to be able to assist the Board & Chairman in fundraising.

Vacation Times:

The Directors have the same breaks as the students. (long weekends, Christmas break, spring break, and part of summer break)

The board also highly encourages the Directors to take personal retreats two 3-day weekends per semester.

Compensation:

Gatehouse provides a $2,000 stipend monthly for the couple. The directors may raise other support if they desire. GH covers room, board, food and a business car for GH & insurance for vehicles.

GH provides directors liability insurance but no medical insurance or retirement plans.

Part time bi-vocational work outside of Gatehouse is acceptable for this Director’s position, upon the board’s approval.
