We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic leader to serve as the Executive Director of Business and Research Services - Heinz College. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in the operational and financial success of Heinz College, managing a $60 million annual budget and leading a team that supports our mission of excellence.

Your Impact:

As Executive Director, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all business, administrative, and financial functions of Heinz College. Your contributions will enable our faculty and students to conduct innovative research and deliver creative educational experiences.

Core Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership:

  • Provide expert consultation on financial oversight, budget development, and performance, ensuring meticulous financial management.

  • Analyze budget reviews and deliver strategic recommendations to optimize financial outcomes.

  • Maintain financial integrity and ensure compliance with all financial policies and procedures.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee personnel and payroll functions, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.

  • Lead procurement and contracting activities, driving efficiency and building strong vendor relationships.

  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.

Research Administration:

  • Manage sponsored research and project activities, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and supporting groundbreaking research.

Strategic Initiatives:

  • Provide strategic advice and direction for college initiatives, including research center development and degree program launches.

  • Develop and deliver training and education on programs and policies, empowering staff and faculty.

  • Serve on university-wide committees.

Relationship Building:

  • Build consensus among internal and external partners, including faculty, staff, and students.

  • Strengthen external partnerships.

You should demonstrate:

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing long-term strategic plans.

  • Expertise in budget development, revenue forecasting, and cash flow analysis.

  • Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and reporting on financial data.

  • Deep understanding of applicable labor and financial federal and state laws and guidelines.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.

  • Ability to create a positive and productive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree is a plus.

  • Minimum of eight years of experience in business administration and finance.

  • CPA certification preferred.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. The university will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.

  • Work Posture: This position is currently operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in-office presence three (3) days a week. This hybrid is based on the needs of the University and College.

  • Travel Requirements: You should be able to travel domestically and be willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
