Job Summary
The Production Engineer 2 is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes to support both New Product Introductions (NPI) and volume production. This role requires hands-on experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead small-scale projects independently. The position emphasizes continuous improvement, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership to ensure operational excellence. This role is specifically for an EXE Chuck Assembly Production Engineer, responsible for precision mechanics, including glass to metal bonding, assembly, and related processes.
Key Responsibilities
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
Develop and optimize processes for NPI and volume manufacturing.
Implement SPC for new products and monitor process stability.
Drive structural improvements for recurring manufacturing issues and chronic quality challenges.
Manufacturing Process Development
Develop and maintain manufacturing procedures, technical work instructions, and process specifications.
Create and update process documentation, routings, and sequences for factory execution.
Role model compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Innovate processes related to glass to metal bonding
New Product Introduction (NPI)
Support introduction of new products into production within a concurrent engineering environment.
Participate in design reviews, PFMEAs, and documentation reviews to ensure manufacturability.
Evaluate and optimize tooling for NPI and volume manufacturing
Production Support & Troubleshooting
Provide technical support assisting First Line Support (FLS) for production issues, including troubleshooting modules and driving to root cause resolution
Evaluate and disposition parts with quality issues, validate supplier failure analysis reports, and implement corrective actions.
Provide technical details and recommendations during root cause analysis (RCA) investigations and escalations.
Participate in DRB/MRB to drive structural solutions
Drive small-scale Lean and Six Sigma improvement initiatives.
Planning & Control
Maintain MRP controls for module production and support production planning activities.
Perform cycle time analysis, capacity planning, and present findings to stakeholders.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with cross-functional teams to further industrialization
Collaborate with internal teams and external customers regarding assembly and testing of components and final products.
Provide clear and timely reporting on improvement actions, cycle time analysis, and project progress.\
Document results, write procedures, and support qualification plans.
Education
Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field) required with 2+ years in manufacturing or engineering environment (internship experience preferred)
Masters Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field) with 2+ internships in a production or manufacturing environment
Experience
Solid understanding of SPC, PFMEA, and lean principles.
Proven ability to manage projects and deliver improvements
Technical Requirements
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools (Kaizen, 5S, DMAIC).
Knowledge in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX).
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, assembly, automation, material handling).
Strong understanding of SPC, PFMEA, and root cause analysis methodologies.
Familiarity with ERP/MES systems for routing and documentation updates.
Competence in data analysis tools (Excel, Minitab, or similar statistical software).
Knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
Role model of safety standards, compliance, and risk mitigation in manufacturing environments.
Hands-on experience with process validation and equipment qualification.
(Preferred) Knowledge and hands-on experience w/ glass and ceramics, optical assy/ alignment/ test equipment/ tools
(Preferred) Knowledge/ experience in opto-mechanical assembly tolerance analysis
