The Role

Job Description:

Provides leadership for Environmental Services department and Linen Services. Maintains the standards of cleanliness and appearance as established by the facility and regulatory standards for care sites that are trauma level hospitals above 950,000 cleanable square feet

Schedule: Monday - Friday Hours: 8:00 - 5:00pm The selected candidate will most likely be expected to be there 8am - 5pm, Mon - Fri, however this is a 24/7 department, and the Manager needs to flexible to come in earlier, stay late and if needed come on weekends.

Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements and manages annual capital/operating and personnel (FTE) budget for Environmental Services. Partners with the Finance team and EVS leadership team to use resources effectively and manage expenses to meet financial goals
  • Responsible for Environmental Services performance and compliance with patient safety initiatives, federal, state and other regulatory bodies such as Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, and other EVS specific accrediting and certifying bodies in a highly complex setting including ICU, NICU, PICU, Cath Lab, Bone Marrow Transplant, Behavioral Health, Level I and II Trauma ED, and other specialized units. It may also include complex settings in Lab, Imaging, Operating rooms, and in an outpatient setting  
  • Directs the work of the EVS Managers and supervisors at the care site, including proper delegation of tasks
  • Facilitates collaborative problem solving among interdepartmental disciplines
  • Participates in, develops, implements, and evaluates initiatives designed to standardize, improve quality, increase patient engagement, enhance safety, increase efficiency, and decrease costs at both the care site level and enterprise level
  • Facilitates human resource functions such as interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure development in partnership with EVS leadership
  •  Development of process improvement and action plans in line with the organization's strategic initiatives and goals
  • Assists system EVS leaders in developing system wide standards, leading huddles, and participating in system wide committees
  • Responsible for creating an effective department culture which promotes an engaged workforce, in partnership EVS site leadership and EVS enterprise leadership teams

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative work and project management
  • Proven ability to delegate appropriately
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement projects, including action planning
  • Proven ability to lead an engaged team and foster professional development
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with employees at all levels in the organization, and communicate effectively in meetings and group settings
  • Experience in building and managing departmental budgets and contracts
  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare Environmental Services (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Public Administration, Public Health, or other related fields (preferred)
  • Certified Hospital Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) through the American Hospital Association (AHA) (preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$43.67 - $67.41
