Wells Fargo is seeking to hire a Mortgage Underwriting Associate Manager (AVP) to support our Home Lending Operations - Underwriting Group in Manila, Philippines.
In this role, you will:
- Supervise staff in tasks and processes to ensure timely completion, quality, and compliance in Underwriting
- Review lending decisions for adherence to established guidelines
- Review and recommend credit decisions exceeding assigned staffs lending limits
- Ensure all loan packages are accurately analyzed and properly documented
- Identify opportunities for development and improvement in the team functions
- Implement and monitor tracking and performance mechanisms
- Ensure all procedures are in compliance with government regulations and bank policies
- Make decisions and resolve issues related to business operations under direction of the Underwriting management
- Interpret and develop processes for workflow within the team
- Collaborate with team and other departments to resolve credit issues
- Interact directly with customers
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources for the Underwriting team
- Mentor and guide talent development of direct reports and assist in hiring talent
- 2+ years of underwriting, loan processing, originations, or closing experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 1+ years of Leadership experience
- Experience in Business Execution, Implementation, Strategic Planning, or equivalent
- 2+ years of overall experience with at least 3+ years of previous experience within US residential mortgage underwriting environment, managing varied workflows.
- 1+ years of team leadership or management experience
- Graduate in commerce/finance/management stream
- NMLS Safe Act Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) License
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong stakeholder management and stateside partnership skills
- Supervise a team in underwriting tasks and processes to ensure timely completion, quality, and compliance for the business
- Ensure successful planning, integration, impasse resolution, and measurement of operations that are routine and arise within the operations of the work group
- Mitigate risk development within the operations of work groups and functional areas
- Make day to day supervisory decisions and, under the direction of management, resolve issues for procedure administration and adherence, systems or change initiatives, business continuity planning, reporting and research, project funding, quality management, communications, financial control, and internal processing of colleagues
- Leverage interpretation of policies, procedures, or compliance requirements for the business group
- Mentor and guide talent development of direct reports and assist in hiring talent
- Demonstrated strong people management skills required with ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management in an energetic and diverse environment
- Demonstrated track record in identifying inefficiencies and leading efforts to resolve and/or improve overall business processes
- Deep knowledge and understanding of mortgage and/or home equity processes
- In-depth understanding of end-to-end Home Lending Operations: origination, processing, underwriting, closing and funding
- Demonstrated knowledge/background in underwriting including credit scoring, credit systems, credit bureaus, and judgmental decisioning processes
- Excellent Spoken and written communication skills
- Proactively engage with internal bank stakeholders, third parties, settlement agents via telephone to gather necessary information, documentation, clarify information & resolve underwriting conditions
- Ability to conduct clear and customer centric telephone conversations to explain underwriting decisions, documentation requirements and next steps in the mortgage process
- Effectively handle both inbound and outbound calls maintaining high levels of responsiveness and timely follow ups
- Demonstrate active listening skills to accurately capture information and address concerns.
- Maintain accurate call logs, documenting key points and outcomes of the telephonic conversations for audit purposes
- Collaborate cross functionally with Processing, closing & Sales teams for seamless communication and customer satisfaction
