Job SummaryUnder the direction of emergency nursing personnel, the Emergency Room Technician assists in the care and treatment of emergency room patients. Duties include patient transportation, personal hygiene, collection of vital signs, assisting nursing and physician staff with procedures, cleaning and stocking, clerical support activities, answering telephones, filing, greeting visitors, electronic data entry, and assisting with documentation.
Minimum Qualifications- Completion of Basic EKG course required (or within 30 days of hire into the department).
- BLS certification required (or within 30 days of hire for new certifications).
- CPI certification required (or within 30 days of hire for new certifications).
- Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician, Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or related program.
- Acute care hospital or emergency services experience preferred.
- Assist in the care and treatment of emergency room patients.
- Transport patients as directed.
- Collect and document vital signs.
- Assist nursing and physician staff with procedures as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and stock supplies in the emergency department.
- Provide clerical and communication support for patient care teams.
- Answer telephones, file documents, greet visitors, and perform electronic data entry.
- Assist with patient documentation.
- Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Comply with organizational policies and procedures.
- Support quality patient care and safety initiatives.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, and pull throughout the work shift.
- Ability to assist with patient movement and transport.
- Ability to perform the physical demands associated with emergency department support activities.
