Eastern Research Group (ERG) is seeking a qualified, entry-level environmental scientist to join our team in our Golden, Colorado office. Responsibilities include conducting terrestrial and aquatic field surveys, collecting and processing environmental samples, performing basic data management and analysis tasks, and compiling written technical reports. Technical work will be performed under the direct supervision and mentorship of experienced ERG environmental professionals.

Job Description:

  • Conduct field surveys to collect data using electronic data capture tools, including extended travel in remote areas
  • Collect and manage water, soil, and other environmental media samples
  • Operate and maintain field vehicles and sampling/monitoring equipment
  • Perform basic data summary and analysis tasks, including extracting and acquiring data from a diverse array of sources, cleaning and formatting, and simple analysis
  • Prepare written reports and technical documentation summarizing field activities, analytical results, and findings

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline
  • 0 – 2 years of experience
  • Understanding of environmental concepts and scientific principles
  • Attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic to intermediate data analysis capabilities
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to balance multiple concurrent tasks
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work outdoors, including remote locations

  • Although not required, the following characteristics are desirable:
  • Proficiency with various programming languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to perform common data management, analysis, and visualization operations
  • Experience using ESRI’s suite of ArcGIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro; ArcGIS Online) to display and analyze geospatial data
  • Open-source GIS tools (e.g., QGIS; Python, R) may also be used periodically to supplement analytical workflows

The salary range for all positions depends on the years and type of experience.
