The Role
The Enterprise Data & Analytics Steward is a dedicated operational data stewardship role responsible for the day-to-day enforcement of the Data Governance Framework and for championing firm-wide data governance standards.
The role provides hands-on stewardship, guidance and support to data stewards across the firm, helping to ensure that data is trusted, well-defined, compliant, and fit for purpose.
The Team
The Data & Analytics Governance function plays a critical role in supporting Norton Rose Fulbright’s strategic objectives by enabling trusted, high-quality data to be used across the firm. The team works to mature the firm’s data culture by embedding consistent governance standards, supporting data quality, and enabling stakeholders to confidently access and use data.
The Enterprise Data & Analytics Steward sits within the Data Governance Centre of Excellence (CoE) and works closely with Data & Analytics colleagues, Data Protection, IT, domain data owners, and business stakeholders across the firm to ensure effective and consistent data governance practices are applied.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance & Stewardship
- Champion data governance best practice and promote adoption across all relevant business areas, including day-to-day enforcement of the Data Governance Framework across the firm.
- Monitor and support firm-wide data quality, proactively identifying data quality issues using data observability and monitoring techniques, supporting investigation and resolution.
- Work closely with Data Protection colleagues to ensure alignment with data retention schedules and compliance requirements.
- Define, embed and support the consistent application of data governance standards, policies and processes across operational datasets.
- Work with business and technical stakeholders to document business definitions, data ownership and data stewardship responsibilities.
- Maintain and support accurate data dictionaries, metadata and data lineage to promote transparency and shared understanding of firm data assets.
- Act as a key contributor to data management and data quality activities, supporting the development and ongoing maturity of data management frameworks.
Guidance, Enablement & Community Support
- Provide guidance, coaching and practical support to Domain and Business Data Stewards across the firm.
- Support the onboarding and ongoing development of data stewards, helping them to understand their responsibilities within the governance framework.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to create and maintain governance collateral, governance knowledge assets, standards and guidance.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to act as a primary point of contact between business and technical teams.
- Support governance forums, working groups and communities of practice.
- Provide guidance and support to business users to enable effective access to, and use of, trusted data sets.
- Support operational reporting and dashboards by promoting high‑quality, consistent and well‑governed data inputs.
- Support data lifecycle management activities from ingestion through to archival, in line with firm policies and applicable standards.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory, data privacy and information security requirements.
- Support the maintenance of appropriate data access controls and data‑sharing arrangements in line with firm policies and governance standards.
Skills and Experience Required
- Experience in a Data, Analytics or Governance Role
- Familiarity with data governance tools or data catalogues
- A strong understanding of data protection and retention principles
- Experience working in the legal industry or in professional services more generally
- Experience working with data stakeholders
- Strong Communications skills
- High attention to detail and organisational skills
- Educated to degree or equivalent level.
