MongoDB empowers innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data.
The Role
The Enterprise Architect will collaborate with stakeholders to assess and modernize legacy applications to MongoDB, design microservice architectures, produce technical deliverables, and provide governance throughout the modernization process.
Summary Generated by Built In

MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

MongoDB's Application Modernization Platform (AMP) team aims to grow the adoption of MongoDB by accelerating the rate at which legacy applications built on RDBMS can be modernized to MongoDB. The AMP team uses a combination of proprietary GenAI and deterministic tools combined with modernization techniques (methodologies) developed over numerous customer engagements to modernize legacy applications to MongoDB. This involves modernizing both the application tier by decomposing the legacy application into services and building modern services on MongoDB. Our modernization methodologies involve apply specialized tools that automate a wide variety of modernization tasks including analyzing legacy code bases to figure out how to disaggregate them, transforming legacy code (PL/SQL, T-SQL, Java, C#) to modern application frameworks on MongoDB, automated test generation, and side-by-side testing (legacy vs. modern).

We are looking for an Enterprise Architect to support the sales and delivery of modernization engagements. Candidates must be located in the United States near an airport that will enable them to easily visit customer sites in North America or Europe.

Roles Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with MongoDB AMP presales team and customer stakeholders to assess legacy applications, their architecture, and dependencies
  • Design target-state microservice architectures on MongoDB that meet customer business, technical, and operational requirements
  • Develop modernization roadmaps using the strangler pattern to progressively replace legacy components with modern MongoDB-based services
  • Define and document data synchronization strategies for hybrid (part legacy / part modernized) deployment states
  • Architect solutions for integration and data consistency across the broader enterprise application landscape
  • Facilitate technical workshops and discovery sessions with customer architects, developers, and business leaders
  • Produce presales deliverables including initial solution architectures, modernization proposals, and presentations to communicate design merits
  • Produce post-sales detailed technical designs and guide MongoDB services teams and customer teams during implementation
  • Provide architectural governance and direction throughout modernization projects to ensure quality, scalability, and best practices
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture, or modernization-focused technical leadership roles
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering modern, cloud-native, microservices-based architectures
  • Hands-on experience with application modernization strategies, including the strangler fig pattern, domain-driven design, and event-driven architectures
  • Demonstrated experience with data architecture, including migration, synchronization, and integration patterns for heterogeneous systems
  • Familiarity with at least one of the legacy technology ecosystems being modernized:
    • RDBMS-centric applications (PL/SQL, T-SQL)
    • Monolithic Java or .NET applications
  • Strong customer-facing skills: ability to facilitate workshops, present designs, and influence technical decision-making
  • Experience working across both presales (solutioning, proposals) and delivery (detailed design, governance)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills
  • Willingness to travel as needed for customer engagement (approximately 25% travel)
