We're looking for an Enterprise Architect who will develop technical strategies aligned with our business strategies to advance our veterinarian clinic and IDEXX cloud solutions for the future. This includes re-imagining the vet clinic diagnostic system architecture, designing and analyzing our cloud infrastructure to reduce dependencies and developing the next generation data handling architecture to support AI and business intelligence growth and complexity.
The ideal candidate will be able to formulate and present technical strategies that align with business strategies to executive members of the company. They will be able to build consensus among technical and business peers on the path forward to achieve the technical strategy. This candidate has strong collaboration skills that can be applied to developing reasonable and realistic yearly and quarterly goals for teams involved in executing on the technical strategy. Lastly, they will be able to balance the strategic path forward within budgetary constraints while developing key measurements of success in various projects.
The Mission:
We have big company growth goals and as we build momentum, we are on the search for a full-time Enterprise Architect, who is a great collaborator and who can grow our capacity to deliver key projects at scale.
In this role you will:
- Develop technical strategies that align with business strategies and goals
- Develop technical roadmaps that show clear paths forward that balance value with risk
- Provide oversite to system level changes that may impact key system attributes
- Working with business partners, develop cost models for proposed changes, providing optionality in design and future architectural direction
- Provide design recommendations on long-term organization strategy that optimizes architectural direction.
- Develop system characterization metrics that can be used to evaluate the health of the architecture over time
- Participate in development of new enterprise initiatives.
- Research and maintain knowledge in emerging technologies and trends.
- Understand and apply attributes and processes of current application development methodologies.
- Act as internal consultant, advocate, mentor and change agent.
- Build consensus around architectural change with peers, business partners and senior leaders.
What you will need to succeed:
- Design enterprise, Company-wide solutions in enterprise environment.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of application development, cloud technology and data architecture.
- Assigned projects up to highest complexity, including projects with unique or controversial problems which impact major Company programs.
- Able to lead the development effort of a significant new enterprise initiatives.
- Strong collaboration skills that build consensus for large changes.
- Actively pursues process improvement opportunities and leads their implementation and adoption.
- Typically, 10+ years’ related experience.
- Ability to understand business strategy and can translate that to technical strategy
- Familiarity with relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Ability to leverage technology background and understanding of latest technologies to apply to development work.
- Understanding of procedural and object-oriented design.
- Experience with Advanced Business Applications Programming (ABAP), Java, AQL, SQL, Jenkins, GitHub, Angular/React, AWS. Experience with .net, Python, and Google Cloud would also be helpful.
- Experience in managing the evolution of legacy code to a modernized technology platform
- Familiarity with multiple software development patterns and methodologies and experienced in applying the right pattern or methodology depending on the situation
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Fluency in the English language.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to translate technical subject matter to non-technical audiences (both as a speaker and listener).
