About the Portfolio

The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences. 

The Portfolio incorporates the following business units:  Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, People, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Vietnam Operations.

The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups.  The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe.  Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

The Information Technology Services (ITS) function, provides RMIT University with current and emerging Technology systems and services. The Role

Reporting to the Associate Director, Architecture & Solutions, you will provide enterprise‑level architectural leadership across core operational platforms supporting Finance, People (HR), Property Services, Governance, Risk & Compliance, and research enablement.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders, portfolio leaders, and delivery teams to define target‑state architectures, roadmaps, standards, and reference architectures that enable scalable, secure, and future‑ready enterprise services.

The Enterprise Architect (EA) is integral to the Architecture & Software Engineering group, facilitating enterprise transformation in alignment with business objectives.

The EA collaborates with IT Services, business units, and leadership to formulate and prioritise RMIT University's enterprise architecture. Key responsibilities encompass the development, maintenance, and governance of the university's architectural framework, including Reference Architectures, Blueprints, Roadmaps, and Technology Strategies. Furthermore, the EA provides support to Solution Architects by guiding platform and solution-level architecture.

The EA ensures comprehensive stakeholder engagement across the organisation, ensuring that architecture aligns with future requirements and RMIT's strategic goals.

About You:

To be successful in this position, you’ll have

  • Over five years' experience as an Enterprise Architect in large, complex organisations, supported by a strong history in Solution Architecture and enterprise-scale technology delivery.

  • Capable of conveying new ideas and concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A good understanding and exposure to digital asset management, knowledge/document/records management, CRM, ERP, LMS, Commerce, and their value to the enterprise.

  • Exposure to diverse Governance, Risk and Compliance, understanding of regulatory obligations.

  • Highly collaborative and supportive of business strategies. Experienced in working with senior business executives and able to provide professional feedback.

  • Define and maintain the comprehensive lifecycle of strategic architecture, including roadmaps, current and target state architectures, blueprints, principles, guidelines, and Reference Architecture, by collaborating with stakeholders across the university and IT Services.

  • Guide and participate in Solution Architecture across various projects and initiatives, ensuring that solutions adhere to architectural principles and contribute to RMIT's target state architecture.

  • Analyse the business's future-state capabilities and current IT environment to identify critical deficiencies and recommend improvements to support and enable value delivery for the organisation.
