The Opportunity
As an Enterprise Architect Intern, you will be responsible for owning the data integrity and automation processes from around and within our Enterprise Architecture Repository. You will work closely with the Enterprise Architecture Team, to understand the data structure and overall repository design to navigate within it. You will review approved Architecture Solutions and catalog the details into the repository along with technology standards and end of support details. This position requires someone who is skilled in software development – specifically, python and an understanding of AI ML models from Hugging Face or Azure Foundry. Strong willingness to learn Enterprise Architecture is vital.
As an Enterprise Architect Intern, you will be shadowing one or more of our current Enterprise Architects while they work to manage the Velera Architecture Repository, author architecture building blocks and perform discovery on proposed projects. You will also work independently on action items related to shadowing and learning the EA role - hands on. For example, you will assist an Enterprise Architect with data entry, data cleaning and data enhancement for repository data, help author and review architecture building blocks and participate in project discovery, taking on independent tasks as appropriate.
A willingness to read and understand source code, specifically in R and Python, will be beneficial, but is not required.
An understanding of basic machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) principles and the relevant R and/or Python libraries will be beneficial, but is not required.
Day in the Life
- Architecture Design: Review and understand software architecture solution components.
- Software Programming: Ability to design and develop code with Python and R using R Studio and PyCharm IDEs. Libraries that are important are: Keras and NumPy, along with understanding how to code against an AI model from Hugging Face or Azure Foundary. Show hands on ability.
- Team Collaboration: Work well with a Team of engineers and architects.
- Standards and Best Practices: Understand what standards and best practices are and why we have them.
- Documentation: Review, create, and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including diagrams, models, and specifications.

- Development: read, understand and possibly modify existing R and Python codebase to automate data ingestion to the architecture repository and reporting from it.

Qualifications
- Graduate student or Jr / Sr person on track for Bachelors degree in a computer or engineering field
- Willing to learn or advance current hands on experience coding in R and Python (hands on understanding)
- Willing to learn Enterprise Architecture Frameworks like TOGAF, SAFe, and ArchiMate
- Willing to learn an EA modeling repository Tools
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of architecture frameworks, enterprise application integration, and technology stacks used in modern software development. Able to read R and Python code to maintain artifacts is recommended.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze software systems and provide analytical discussions around how systems are being designed.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage self-workload with results.
