Principal Enterprise Architect – Commercial Applications

Purpose

Lead enterprise architecture for Commercial and customer-facing digital capabilities across Sales, Trade Promotion, Key Account Management, Customer Engagement, Commercial Analytics, EDI, and related enterprise integrations.

This role will define current-state, transition-state, and target-state architecture; guide platform modernization; support application rationalization; and ensure technology investments align with business capability needs across Commercial, Marketing, Product, Data, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Finance, and Enterprise Technology teams.

Key Responsibilities

Business Architecture

  • Partner with Commercial, Marketing, Product, Data, Supply Chain, Finance, Customer Service, and Technology stakeholders to translate business strategy into enterprise technology capabilities.
  • Define and maintain business capability maps, value streams, and capability-to-application alignment across Commercial and Digital platforms.
  • Identify capability gaps, overlaps, duplication, and modernization opportunities across the Commercial technology landscape.
  • Support capability-based planning and investment prioritization for Commercial, CRM, EDI, Trade Promotion, Forecasting, Analytics, and integration platforms.

Architecture Strategy

  • Define current-state, transition-state, and target-state architecture for Commercial and Digital applications.
  • Develop multiyear technology roadmaps aligned to business priorities, enterprise standards, and transformation programs.
  • Establish architecture principles, reference architectures, and reusable patterns for Commercial platforms, EDI, data, and integration capabilities.
  • Support strategic planning, investment decisions, and portfolio prioritization.
  • Provide architecture leadership for platform modernization, simplification, and transformation initiatives.

Portfolio Ownership

Own architecture direction for platforms and capabilities including:

  • CRM and Account Management
  • Salesforce ecosystem, including TPM, KAM, and CRM capabilities
  • Trade Promotion Management
  • Sales Forecasting and Planning platforms
  • EDI platforms and B2B customer/vendor integration capabilities
  • Customer Master and Commercial Data platforms
  • Commercial Analytics and Reporting platforms
  • ERP integration touchpoints
  • Related SaaS, data, middleware, API, cloud, and enterprise integration platforms

Transformation & Modernization

  • Drive application rationalization and simplification across the Commercial and Digital technology landscape.
  • Define transition architectures and phased migration roadmaps for legacy modernization.
  • Support ERP, Salesforce, EDI, analytics, and commercial platform transformation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce technology duplication, improve data quality, simplify integration complexity, and enhance business agility.
  • Guide modernization of legacy integrations, including batch, file-based, EDI, middleware, API, event-driven, and cloud-native integration patterns.

Data, EDI & Integration Architecture

  • Define architecture for Customer Master, Commercial Data, Trade Promotion Data, Forecasting Data, Account Data, EDI transaction data, and Analytics Data.
  • Guide enterprise integration strategy across APIs, events, batch, middleware, EDI, managed file transfer, data lake, SaaS, and cloud-native integration patterns.
  • Define and govern B2B integration patterns for customers, distributors, retailers, brokers, and external partners.
  • Provide architecture guidance for EDI transactions such as purchase orders, order acknowledgements, invoices, advance ship notices, remittance advice, product/catalog data, and related commercial documents.
  • Ensure data and integration designs support scalability, reliability, security, compliance, monitoring, traceability, and operational resilience.
  • Partner with Integration, Data, Security, Infrastructure, ERP, and Engineering teams to ensure end-to-end architecture quality.

Governance

  • Lead architecture reviews, solution design reviews, and design governance forums.
  • Review and approve solution architectures for alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Create and maintain architecture decision records, standards, patterns, and technology assessments.
  • Govern architecture decisions across Commercial platforms, Salesforce, ERP integrations, EDI, data platforms, and analytics solutions.
  • Promote reusable, scalable, secure, and well-governed architecture patterns across the enterprise.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, Domain Architecture, or Lead Solution Architecture roles.
  • Strong experience with Commercial, CRM, Sales Forecasting, Customer, EDI, or Digital platform architecture.
  • Architecture experience within Salesforce, including TPM, KAM, CRM, or customer-facing platforms.
  • Experience with ERP and Sales Forecasting application integrations.
  • Experience with EDI platforms, B2B integrations, managed file transfer, middleware, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application portfolio management and application rationalization.
  • Experience defining data architecture, master data ownership, and integration architecture across complex enterprise landscapes.
  • Proven ability to create current-state, target-state, and transition-state architecture views.
  • Experience leading architecture governance, design reviews, and cross-functional architecture alignment.
  • Experience partnering with business and technology stakeholders across Commercial, Data, Integration, ERP, Security, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams.

  • Familiarity with Commercial capabilities such as Sales Forecasting, Account Planning, Trade Promotion, Trade Spend, Customer Engagement, Customer Service, EDI order-to-cash flows, and Commercial Analytics.
  • Exposure to TOGAF, capability-based planning, architecture repositories, or architecture governance frameworks.
  • Experience with customer, retailer, distributor, broker, or third-party partner integration models.
