The Enterprise Applications Architect is ENFRA's senior technical resource for enterprise business applications and related integrations. The role is responsible for future-state application architecture, lifecycle roadmaps, integration architecture, application security models, environment strategy, technical recovery architecture, and the reliable operation of assigned enterprise platforms.

This is a hands-on senior individual-contributor position. The successful candidate must be comfortable moving between strategic architecture, business-process improvement, technical design, application administration, security administration, advanced support, vendor and consultant coordination, and technical project leadership. The role provides architecture and governance across the enterprise application portfolio while performing direct administration and support for specifically assigned applications.

The role reports to the Director of Enterprise Applications and works closely with business process owners, Information Security, Infrastructure, Data, Internal Audit, application developers, vendors, consultants, implementation partners, and managed service providers.

Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

Application strategy, architecture, and lifecycle management:

  • Own and maintain application lifecycle strategies and multi-year roadmaps for enterprise business applications.
  • Monitor vendor roadmaps, release requirements, supportability, end-of-support dates, platform dependencies, and technology risks; recommend upgrades, migrations, replacements, or remediation actions.
  • Evaluate cloud, hosted, and on-premises deployment options and recommend solutions based on business requirements, security, integration needs, supportability, resilience, cost, and long-term architectural fit.
  • Define future-state application architectures that are secure, scalable, supportable, configurable, resilient, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Participate in enterprise architecture reviews for new or materially changed applications and services.
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend application platforms, tools, standards, and patterns that support business goals and the enterprise application roadmap.
  • Maintain application architecture documentation, system context diagrams, environment diagrams, integration maps, standards, technical decisions, and operating procedures.

Business process and solution design:

  • Partner with business leaders and process owners to understand current processes, identify improvement opportunities, and translate business requirements into practical technology solutions.
  • Design application, configuration, workflow, security, and integration solutions that improve process effectiveness while maintaining appropriate controls and supportability.
  • Communicate solution options, dependencies, tradeoffs, risks, operational impacts, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure that proposed solutions use existing platform capabilities and standard objects where practical before introducing custom components or new technologies.

Enterprise application ownership and administration:

  • Provide advanced administration, technical oversight, and operational support for assigned enterprise business applications and environments.
  • Manage application configurations, environments, releases, upgrades, patches, technical dependencies, and related operating documentation in coordination with business owners and service partners.
  • Monitor and improve application availability, performance, reliability, supportability, recoverability, and user experience.
  • Provide Tier I-II administration and support for specifically assigned services and serve as a Tier III technical escalation point for complex application, environment, security, and integration issues.
  • Triage and resolve incidents, coordinate escalation when required, identify recurring issues, and implement durable corrective actions that reduce operational risk and technical debt.
  • Support enterprise platforms that may include ERP, HRIS, payroll, time collection, expense management, project and construction applications, reporting services, secure file transfer, and associated technologies.

Integration architecture and data exchange:

  • Define enterprise application integration architectures, standards, and reusable patterns for APIs, middleware, orchestration, secure file transfer, batch interfaces, and data synchronization.
  • Architect integrations among enterprise applications and third-party platforms, including the appropriate use of existing standard objects and platform services.
  • Develop technical designs and requirements for integrations to be built by internal developers, consultants, vendors, or implementation partners.
  • Recommend new or materially changed integration designs through established enterprise architecture, security, and technology governance processes.
  • Lead technical evaluation and selection of future integration technologies and platforms.
  • Review completed integration solutions for conformance with approved architecture, security requirements, standards, documentation, monitoring, support, and recovery expectations.
  • Troubleshoot interface failures, coordinate resolution, and improve integration monitoring, recoverability, stability, and performance.

Application security and governance:

  • Design and govern application security models, including role design, privileges, role-based access, segregation of duties, provisioning standards, and auditability requirements.
  • Gather and translate business and security requirements into application roles, permissions, and technical controls.
  • Configure and maintain roles and permissions and perform user provisioning, modification, and deprovisioning for specifically assigned applications.
  • Provide architecture and integration support for other enterprise platforms without assuming day-to-day access-administration responsibility unless specifically assigned.
  • Establish and maintain application architecture, configuration, integration, documentation, and security standards within the role's area of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with Information Security, Infrastructure, Data, Internal Audit, and business teams to identify and address application and integration risks.
  • Maintain documentation and evidence that support the auditability of application access and integration security controls.

Environment, resilience, and recovery architecture:

  • Define and maintain environment strategies for development, testing, quality assurance, production, disaster recovery, and failover.
  • Lead or coordinate the build and maintenance of non-production environments required for upgrades, releases, integrations, troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Own technical recovery and failover architecture for assigned enterprise applications and ensure that designs, dependencies, procedures, and documentation align with business recovery requirements.
  • Coordinate and support application recovery and failover testing; document results and lead remediation of identified technical gaps.
  • Ensure that environment configurations, dependencies, and operating procedures remain current, controlled, and supportable.

Technical leadership, projects, and consulting services:

  • Lead technical workstreams for application upgrades, migrations, implementations, replatforming, data-center moves, and modernization initiatives.
  • Serve as the overall project lead for selected technically focused application initiatives when appropriate to the scope and available delivery resources.
  • Identify consulting-service needs and coordinate external technical resources that provide supplemental capacity or specialized expertise for assigned applications and integrations.
  • Define technical requirements, deliverables, standards, and acceptance expectations for consultants, developers, implementation partners, and managed service providers.
  • Coordinate consulting services used to build, enhance, maintain, or support applications, environments, and integrations within the role's scope.
  • Review external technical deliverables for quality, completeness, documentation, supportability, and alignment with approved architecture and standards.
  • Lead technical engagement with software vendors and service partners regarding product roadmaps, upgrades, supportability, end-of-life events, technical risks, and issue escalation.
  • Promote effective knowledge transfer and sustainable internal processes when external resources are used.
