Under the direction of the Outreach Director, this position counsel’s individuals and families with information and assistance for enrollment into Qualified Health Plans (QHPs), Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage options. The Outreach and Enrollment specialist will also work closely with community partners, and businesses to build awareness of enrollment services. This position will represent Health West at community outreach events as requested and must complete required federal and/or state consumer assistance training to provide fair, accurate, and impartial assistance.
Job Duties
- Provides education and enrollment assistance for uninsured children and adults to access subsidized, low-cost and free health insurance programs through the health insurance marketplace, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
- Sliding fee screening and enrollment
- Special Services screening and enrollment
- Assist patients with payment plans or other financial hardship programs
- Verify eligibility and obtain authorizations for surgeries, in-office procedures, and other billable services.
- Collect patient responsibility for procedures and services and schedule in-office procedures
- Supports the Outreach Director in the development of outreach plans and opportunity assessment.
- Maintains and provides outreach materials to patients, community members, partner organizations, and businesses to build coverage option awareness.
- Participates in outreach, fundraising, and volunteer activities that include, but is not limited to: parades, health fairs, etc.
- Attends relevant and required meetings, trainings, community events, and collaborate with various local organizations to build awareness of enrollment services at Health West.
- Encourages/works with qualifying patients to get them successfully enrolled into Medicaid, CHIP, etc.
- Attends and successfully complete all required training programs; participate in ongoing conference calls, webinars, and other professional development opportunities.
- Uplifts, encourages, and collaborates with team members to ensure the highest quality of service is provided.
- Assist at front desk as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Outreach Director.
- High school graduate (or GED)
- One-year experience in the healthcare industry Highly Preferred
- Ability to speak effectively before groups and actively engage the general public in outreach situations.
- Able to relate to the public in all areas (racial, ethnic, and economic)
- Possess a calm disposition and the ability to work easily with people.
- Willingness to work some weekends and/or evenings for community events such as health fairs, parades, etc.
- Possess excellent customer service skills
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish preferred
