Landmark Vineyards is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Enologist to join the production team. The Enologist should be familiar with all cellar activities such as fermentation management, harvest logistics, and nutrient supplementation. In addition to a comprehensive knowledge of winemaking practices, the candidate is expected to possess very strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills. The Enologist will also contribute to continuous improvement efforts by helping to develop KPIs and will actively support our Safety and Food Safety teams, fostering a culture of safety and quality excellence.

This position is based in Kenwood, CA. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM), with the exception of harvest season when overtime and weekends may be required.

Job Description

  • Working under the direction and expectation of the Winemaker to coordinate and manage all aspects of the cellar to ensure quality and operational efficiency with the Cellar Lead
  • Support cellar process management of grapes and wines, including chemical and ingredient additions, racks, transfers, clarification, blends, shipping, quality control, and final preparation for bottling
  • Supervise and motivate the cellar team to ensure operational efficiency, quality standards, and effective task delegation
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory; oversee the lab workflow, equipment calibration, safety compliance, SOPs, inventory, training, and projects while ensuring timely communication of any quality concerns
  • Manage all enological matters and perform a variety of routine and harvest-related wine analyses; operate and maintain lab instruments, prepare chemical solutions, enter data, and support wine additions and QC procedures
  • Mentor, train, and oversee harvest interns while fostering a collaborative team environment; directly manage 1 lab intern during harvest season
  • Manage supplies and ingredients, including preharvest winemaking supplies, all wine additives and fining agents
  • Generate and input work orders into the winery software
  • Ensure all company policies and safety policies are adhered to in respective working areas
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity and quality of all wines on premises
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration across the business units (JUSTIN & Lewis Cellars) and departments to support process improvements
  • Champion WOW (Way of Work), the company's continuous improvement program

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of winemaking & laboratory experience; minimum 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Wine & Viticulture, Enology, Chemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard winery equipment (pumps, filters, crush equipment, presses) and lab equipment (aeration-oxidation apparatus, autoanalyzers, pH meters, titrators, turbidimeters, dissolved oxygen meters)
  • Familiarity with ERP winemaking software such as Crafted, InnoVint, Vintrace, etc.

  • Strong functional ability in Microsoft Office Programs (Office Suite, Word, Teams, Excel); ability to perform basic calculations and assemble data in spreadsheets and charts/graphs
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English; conversational Spanish desired
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, dependent on the needs of the department
  • Ability to manage day-to-day details, while maintaining a grasp of company-wide, longer-term goals of producing a luxury brand
  • Ability to establish direction, coach others, rally a team toward a common objective, and execute
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Working knowledge of modern sanitation protocols and experience in the procurement/QA of packaging supplies is desired
  • Desire to learn and apply the Wonderful Way Values to our everyday processes

Pay Range: $34.62 - $38.46 per hour. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills and experience.
