LocalEyes Group is a leading provider of Localization Services to the international computer and software sectors with headquarters in Ireland and subsidiaries in Europe and the US. We work with the world's most innovative companies. We help them to grow and expand in new markets providing experts and cultural awareness.
LocalEyes is looking for an English Variant Linguist to join its growing community of freelancers.
The majority of the work involves the following tasks:
- Assessing words or terms (from formal or standard to colloquial or slang/offensive). This involves determining preferred spelling, meaning, usage, possible ambiguity or sensitivity, and appropriateness for the locale.
- The above is done through an online portal.
- This type of work includes support for English variants in the following locales : U.S.A, Australia, Canada, Britain, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa. The candidate should be comfortable with all of these locales and be confident about doing the required research. Generally requests deal with standard English, but some do require knowing more about colloquial use or very locale-specific things (e.g. products, politics, culture/traditions, etc.).
Other requests include the following tasks:
- Conduct research in various areas and provide short reports.
- Large lexicon clean-up requests.
- Researching locale-specific terminology.
- Native speaker
- Grammar expert
- Reliable
Average workload is 10 to 12 hrs per week.
Skills Required
- Native English speaker
- Expert knowledge of English grammar
- Outstanding grasp of linguistics, morphology, and vocabulary
- Excellent attention to detail
- Familiarity with current usage, slang, and regional colloquialisms across English-speaking locales
- Comfortable researching locale-specific terminology and cultural context
- Ability to work via an online portal and complete lexicon clean-up tasks
- Reliable availability for ~10-12 hours per week
