Position Summary:
The Engineering Technician – Lean Systems supports continuous improvement initiatives by applying Lean principles and tools across operations. This role is heavily focused on developing, implementing, and sustaining Standard Work, driving Waste Elimination efforts, and leading 5S/6S activities. Over time, the position is designed to evolve into a Training Technician role, responsible for developing and delivering training programs that reinforce Lean behaviors and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lean Implementation & Continuous Improvement
- Assist in the development, documentation, and maintenance of Standard Work for production and support processes.
- Identify and eliminate waste (e.g., defects, overproduction, waiting, non-utilized talent, transportation, inventory, motion, extra processing).
- Participate in Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects.
- Support value stream mapping and process analysis to identify inefficiencies.
5S/6S Systems Management
- Lead and sustain 5S/6S initiatives across assigned areas.
- Conduct regular audits and ensure adherence to workplace organization standards.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve visual management systems.
Data Collection & Process Monitoring
- Collect and analyze operational data to support improvement initiatives.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Provide reports and recommendations based on findings.
Standardization & Documentation
- Develop clear, user-friendly work instructions, visual aids, and job breakdown sheets.
- Ensure documentation aligns with current processes and continuous improvement updates.
Training Development (Progressive Responsibility)
- Support onboarding and training efforts for new and existing employees on Lean tools and Standard Work.
- Gradually transition into designing and delivering structured training programs.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously improve training materials.

QualificationsQualifications:
Required:
- Associate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to observe processes critically and identify improvement opportunities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar tools.
Preferred:
- Experience with Lean tools such as Standard Work, 5S/6S, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or operations environment.
- Familiarity with training development or instructional methods.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills.
