Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Manufacturing Automation team in Manufacturing Operations as an Engineering Support Specialist I in Pullman, Washington for our swing (2nd) shift. As an Engineering Support Specialist, you’ll be responsible for completing basic testing, services, or troubleshooting of SEL products and processes in accordance with defined procedures under the direction of more experienced staff. This position requires strong collaboration, a composed demeanor, technical proficiency, and a continuous improvement mindset to enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and customer support.

A typical day as an Engineering Support Specialist I might include:

  • Providing status updates to SEL staff and customers.
  • Communicating effectively with team and internal partners and customers.
  • Following department processes while communicating opportunities for improvement to documentation or work instructions.
  • Representing your team by participating in collaborative improvement efforts.
  • Developing basic proficiency in the activities required to support one of the Operation Team’s disciplines
  • Supporting robotic systems and automated stations.
  • Assisting with root cause investigations of automation-related failures.
  • Supporting implementation of continuous improvement projects.
  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

  • Two years’ experience working with SEL products
  • Experience with computer-controlled test/automation equipment
  • Experience with Atlassian software, such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, electronic schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to use statistical tools (Pareto charts, trend analysis, basic statistics) to identify contributors to equipment downtime and prioritize efforts based on impact.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift, push, pull and maneuver up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 35 pounds occasionally
  • Sit and stand for at least 8 hours
  • Vision correctable to 20/30 or better
  • Ability to differentiate color
  • Use of computer keyboard devices
  • Reach, Bend, Twist

Pay Range: $25.96 - $38.37 per hour (plus $2.50/hr shift differential)

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at level I, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.

Engineering Support Specialist I: $25.96 - $38.37 per hour

Engineering Support Specialist II: $28.04 - $41.43 per hour

Engineering Support Specialist III: $30.29 - $44.76 per hour
