Role Overview
The Engineering Quality Lead is a hands-on software engineering leader responsible for improving product quality across the entire software development lifecycle. This role combines software development leadership, AI-assisted engineering, automation, and quality strategy to reduce production defects, improve engineering practices, and build a culture where quality is engineered into every release.
Unlike a traditional QA Lead or QA Manager, this role focuses on preventing defects before they reach customers by combining software engineering expertise, AI-assisted development, intelligent automation, and engineering leadership.
What You'll Do
AI-Driven Engineering Quality
Analyze Jira issues, incidents, support tickets, and production defects
Use AI to trace issues to root causes in the codebase
Review pull requests and production code using AI
Identify recurring defect patterns
Build defect taxonomies
Recommend architectural improvements
Identify technical debt
Improve engineering practices
Build engineering quality dashboards
Create AI workflows that improve engineering effectiveness
AI-Powered Test Automation
Generate Playwright tests using AI
Review AI-generated tests
Improve automation quality
Generate API tests
Generate integration tests
Generate regression tests
Generate edge-case tests
Analyze production incidents and automatically generate regression tests
Integrate automation into CI/CD
Improve automation coverage across engineering teams

What You'll Bring
8+ years of professional software engineering experience
4+ years of hands-on software development (coding) experience
Experience leading software engineering teams that include both software developers and QA engineers
Demonstrated success using AI (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) to improve engineering practices and product quality
Experience managing both software developers and QA engineers
Experience using AI and Playwright to create, review, and maintain automated tests
Experience analyzing production defects, identifying root causes, and implementing preventive engineering improvements
Strong Java and/or Python development experience
Strong understanding of software architecture
Strong understanding of CI/CD
Strong debugging skills
Strong root cause analysis skills
Experience improving engineering quality
Willingness and ability to work core India business hours, plus collaborate with global teams

Skills Required
- 6+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering, SDET, engineering excellence, or related technical leadership roles
- Strong hands-on programming experience in Java and/or Python
- Ability to read, review, debug, and analyze production code
- Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining automated test frameworks
- Demonstrated experience creating end-to-end, API, integration, regression, and performance test automation
- Extensive experience with Playwright and modern web automation frameworks
- Experience with Selenium, AccelQ, LoadRunner, JMeter, Cypress, or equivalent automation platforms
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Strong experience with release management, incident analysis, and defining release readiness criteria
- Hands-on expertise using Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI development tools
- Ability to define automation standards, audit test coverage, and enforce automation coverage requirements
- Willingness and ability to work core India business hours and collaborate with global teams
- Ideally have industry and market knowledge of ESG and sustainability
