The Project Manager within SSA Marine's Central Engineering Department is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering a portfolio of projects of varying scope and complexity across the organization. These may include, but not limited to, infrastructure upgrades, and equipment manufacturing and modernization projects; electrification and decarbonization projects aligned with SSA's ESG goals; safety and compliance initiatives; and automation projects.

Reporting to the Director of Civil Engineering & Projects, the Project Manager provides leadership and oversight from concept development through execution, commissioning, and handover, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with SSA's policies, standards, and strategic objectives.

  • Lead assigned projects from initiation through closeout, including scope definition, budget and schedule development, risk assessment, and resource planning.
  • Prepare and maintain project execution plans and schedules for each project, ensuring alignment with SSA's CAPEX stage-gate process.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Operations, Procurement, HSE, Legal, Finance) and external partners (contractors, suppliers, port authorities, regulators) to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Ensure that project deliverables comply with technical, safety, environmental, and quality industry standards.
  • Drive the standardization and the rationalization of the global portfolio of Engineering department, Automation and Infrastructure proposals, ensuring strong alignment with Carrix standards.
  • Manage project reporting, forecasting, and cost control to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Support the preparation of RFPs, bid evaluations, and contract awards for assigned projects.
  • Manage outsourced vendors/contractors, define and own the project governance, governance of contract for services, monitor service level agreement performance of vendor; develop action plans for any corrections & course changes.
  • Administer and monitor vendor and contractor performance against scope, schedule, cost, and safety obligations.
  • Manage change orders, claims, and risk mitigation for assigned projects.
  • Integrate SSA Marine's sustainability objectives into project scopes, especially for electrification, emissions reduction, and safety improvements.
  • Engage with internal teams and external agencies to secure required permits and approvals.
  • Communicate project progress and impacts to internal stakeholders, terminal leadership, and external partners as required.
  • Oversee the engineering design and specification process for infrastructure and equipment projects.
  • Coordinate technical reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs, and design approvals with appropriate discipline leads.
  • Support operational readiness and handover to terminal operations teams, including training and documentation.
  • Identify and manage project risks, maintaining a live risk register and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure adherence to SSA's safety, environmental, and quality policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Escalate major risks or deviations promptly to the Director of Civil Engineering & Projects.
  • Capture lessons learned from each project and contribute to improving SSA's project delivery framework.
  • Support the development of standard specifications, templates, and best practices within the Central Engineering Department.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical), or related discipline.
  • Advanced degree (PMP, MSc in Project Management, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of progressive project management experience in infrastructure, port/marine terminals, heavy industrial facilities, or equipment manufacturing projects.
  • Proven success delivering projects of varying size and complexity, including electrification, safety, infrastructure, and capital equipment projects.
  • Experience managing contracts, budgets, schedules, and risk across multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Experience with consultants, regulators, and third-party inspectors is a plus
  • Strong understanding of project controls, cost forecasting, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with ESG-driven projects and sustainability standards.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, crane/equipment manufacturing processes, and safety/environmental compliance programs.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and external contractors in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience with CAPEX stage-gate and governance processes preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent) and MS Office Suite.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish desirable; fluency in English required.

Work Environment:

  • Based at SSA Marine headquarters (Seattle, WA) with regular travel to SSA Marine terminals and project sites.
  • Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment but may include time at project sites and manufacturing facilities.
  • Exposure to computer screens.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Will travel to project sites and multiple regions, as well as attend required meetings as necessary, including extended off-site stays when required.

Pay Range

$125,000 - $165,000 per year

Compensation & BenefitsEligible employees (and their families) may qualify for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as having basic life and accidental death insurance, paid disability insurance, including paid parental leave if eligible, and an Employee Assistance Program. Employees will receive paid sick and vacation time, and company holidays if eligible. The company also offers paid bereavement leave, and paid jury duty. Eligible employees can enroll in our company's 401k plan, as well as a retirement plan. Employees will be eligible for discretionary and/or metric-based bonuses dependent on their position.
