Title: Engineering Manager
Location: Bangalore/Pune, India
Overview: Johnson Controls is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the design, development, delivery, and ongoing support of a .NET-based web application. This role will provide both people leadership and technical direction for a team of software engineers, partnering closely with Product Owners, Architects, QA, UX, DevOps, security, operations, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, high-quality digital capabilities. The Engineering Manager will be accountable for team performance, engineering execution, technical standards, delivery commitments, and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, RESTful APIs, Azure platforms, modern web application architecture, Agile delivery, and a proven ability to mentor engineers, manage priorities, resolve technical risks, and align engineering outcomes with business goals.
Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team responsible for building, enhancing, and supporting the application.
Own engineering execution across the software development lifecycle, including solution design, development, code quality, testing, release readiness, deployment, support, and production stability.
Provide technical direction for application architecture, development, RESTful APIs, integrations, database design, security, scalability, reliability, and performance.
Partner with Product Owners, Architects, QA, UX, DevOps, security, operations, and business stakeholders to translate business priorities into clear technical plans and delivery milestones.
Drive engineering best practices, including clean code, design patterns, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, source control, observability, documentation, and secure development standards.
Manage delivery commitments, sprint or release planning, dependency resolution, risk mitigation, resource allocation, and workload balancing for the engineering team.
Review technical designs and implementation approaches to ensure solutions are maintainable, extensible, performant, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
Support troubleshooting of complex application issues, production incidents, performance bottlenecks, integration failures, and quality defects.
Coach engineers through regular feedback, career development conversations, goal setting, performance reviews, skills development, and succession planning.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, team planning, vendor coordination, and capability building to ensure the team has the right skills and capacity to meet delivery objectives.
Promote a collaborative, accountable, inclusive, and continuous improvement-oriented engineering culture focused on customer value and operational excellence.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in software engineering, including hands-on development of enterprise web applications using Microsoft technologies.
3+ years of experience leading, mentoring, or managing software engineering teams, including performance management, delivery ownership, and technical guidance.
Strong proficiency with .NET framework and Azure platform, RESTful services, object-oriented programming, design patterns, and asynchronous programming.
Experience designing, developing, and operating scalable, secure, maintainable web applications and backend services in a modern enterprise environment.
Hands-on experience with SQL Server or other relational databases, including data modeling, query optimization, stored procedures, and application data access patterns.
Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, including services such as App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, storage, identity, monitoring, or related platform capabilities.
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git-based source control, branching strategies, automated testing, build and release practices, DevOps tooling, and application monitoring.
Ability to review architecture and code, guide technical decision-making, address technical debt, and ensure engineering standards are consistently applied.
Experience working in Agile delivery environments with Product Owners, Architects, QA, UX, DevOps, security, operations, vendors, and business stakeholders.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, prioritization, problem-solving, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
Preferred qualifications include Microsoft Azure or .NET certifications, experience with microservices, containerization, frontend frameworks such as Angular, React, or Blazor, and ecommerce or B2B web application experience.
