About Skyscanner

Everyone loves travelling, but planning is not without its challenges ✈️. That's why we've spent 20 years building tools that turn travel-planning chaos into a breeze. Today, around 100 million travellers count on us every month to skip the whole “47 browser tabs open” phase and find flights, cars, and hotels quickly and easily 💻.

Joining Skyscanner means becoming part of a global brand that's striving to become the planet's go-to travel hack accessible for all 🌍.

Our vision? To be the world's number one travel ally. (Ambitious? 💪 Yes, but, hey, that's what got us here)

About the role

Hybrid

Lead a platform that helps travellers fall back in love with planning. Vega Squad owns Skyscanner’s Save to List platform — the behind-the-scenes magic that lets travellers dream, save, revisit and book with ease. As Engineering Manager, you’ll guide a talented full-stack team building systems that stretch across Node.js, React, TypeScript, Python, Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Airflow, Databricks and more.

This is a role with real product impact — your leadership will shape how millions of travellers organise their trips, return to Skyscanner, and ultimately choose where to go next ✨.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading a full-stack squad: Guide and support a team building and operating the Save to List platform used across apps and web.

  • Setting direction & clarity: Establish team goals, technical strategy and priorities that drive meaningful traveller impact.

  • Driving impactful delivery: Collaborate with product and engineering partners to launch new traveller features end-to-end.

  • Building robust systems: Ensure the reliability, scalability and performance of distributed systems powering core travel experiences.

  • Championing engineering excellence: Promote good practices, automation, and high operational standards across the squad.

  • Growing people, not just products: Coach engineers through 1:1s, mentorship and clear career development support.

  • Encouraging collaboration & ownership: Foster an environment where open communication, shared learning and collective responsibility thrive.

About you

  • Experienced technical leader: You’ve successfully led and developed engineering teams in fast-moving environments.

  • Distributed-systems savvy: You understand event-driven architectures, AWS cloud services and modern backend patterns.

  • Technically versatile: Skilled in JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js, React), Python or Java — and excited to work across a varied stack.

  • Data & pipelines aware: Comfortable with Airflow, PySpark, Skyspark or Databricks to support data-driven decisions and processing.

  • Product-minded & pragmatic: You navigate ambiguity with ease and deliver impactful, user-centric solutions at scale.

  • A reliability champion: Obsessed (in a healthy way!) with making systems stable, scalable and operationally excellent.

  • A people-first leader: You bring out the best in teams — inspiring collaboration, curiosity and a sense of shared mission.
