Job Description
As an Engineering Manager, you will report directly to the Director of Engineering (B-2) and be responsible for guiding one or two engineering teams. This role’s key goal is to lead people and drive the delivery of the products and technology roadmaps. EM is not expected to produce code or be an active contributor to the code writing or approval.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver the roadmaps: Collaborate with the product manager to deliver the Product roadmap alongside the technology roadmap.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop engineers, fostering a culture of delivering reliable software. Hiring & firing.
- Project Oversight: Manage and negotiate roadmap feasibility with the product manager. You will handle the agile ceremonies.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the Product, Engineering Director and Operations.
- Performance Evaluation: You set the expectations and development plans for the engineers.
Among the three most important pillars of technology leadership, you can effectively manage just the two. In our structure and cultural setup, the two are People leadership & Roadmap delivery. The third one, technology management, will only indirectly affect your competence, covered by a senior engineer or tech lead reporting to you.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in engineering management or a similar leadership role.
- Technical background with an understanding of software development processes.
- Communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of the Agile methodology.
- Experience with people leadership.
We expect you previously worked as an engineer but enjoy leadership more than coding. You will teach engineers the best practices instead of doing it for them. Your goal is to create a proactive, autonomous agile team.
Additional Information
Salary: Min 3500 EUR / gross monthly + additional remuneration
