Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and skilled Engineering Manager to join and lead an engineering team. This role requires a balanced blend of the following traits:

Technical acumen - A good understanding of architectural complexities of a real time system, comprehension of the nuances of scalability and availability, awareness of the pros and cons of different technologies, and the ability to drive the right decisions through intelligent questioning

Vision - Coming up with, and articulating, a clear vision to the team, with a clear understanding of where the business is headed and how the team fits in that picture

Hiring and Performance Management - Identify, recruit, and retain high performing engineers on their team; conversely, provide constructive feedback when needed and keep a high bar of performance

We are a small global product development team with big ambitions. We move fast but also adopt modern best practices of software engineering. We like efficiency & robustness in both code and team processes.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize new features with product managers, designers, and engineers.
  • Direct team in technical and architectural decisions.
  • Balance technical and product work, making appropriate and timely prioritization decisions to accelerate the business.
  • Help triage bugs, production issues, and oncall escalations.
  • Actively manage performance on the team, providing feedback, coaching, and career development.

Requirements

  • Lead teams building tools and products at scale
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Work on multiple initiatives in parallel
  • Attract and retain high caliber engineers
  • Experience and expertise in web development, modern software development best practices
  • Expertise with at least one programming language, and ideally familiarity with many others

Please note that this position requires 2 days worked in office in Porto, Portugal.

Annual Portugal Hiring Range: €70,000 - €90,000 

*A candidate’s actual placement within this range will depend on geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level.
